need advice from you guys

Hey im jay and im 18. i turned 18 a month ago and about 7 years ago my dad had left me his s2000 when he had past away. it has 2.9k miles on it and im just looking for some advice. i have taken good care of the car and now i can finally drive it next spring as my own. ive wired some led lights into the car myself because i good with wiring but thats the only thing that makes it my own when it comes to this car.

now for the advice haha : im looking to increase some hp. i have searched the millions of way to increase hp with various parts and items but id like to know your opions.

I AM NOT going to add a turbo to the s. Personal preference haha. yet i would like to add some hp. I am first going to buy a cold air since the car is bone stock. but after that i have some questions.

is a greddy exhuast really worth it ? hp gains ? what about a better exhaust brand for the s and what exhaust ? should i buy the exhaust ?

chips ? i have heard countless times chips do just about nothing. the only notable chip i have found is a jet chip. any hp gains ? how much if any ?

cams ? anything else ? anything under the sun i can buy ?

I am asking all these questions because this is not a car i just want to throw any part on. This car is a bit more special to me since it was my fathers. Just hoping you guys can tell me whats best.

At the risk of being boring by repeating something that's been said many times before...take a high speed driving course to learn to drive the car in a competent, intelligent way so you will know what you have before you start trying to 'improve' it. The car as it comes from Momma Honda is about as close to perfection as you can get. Things like CAI, exhaust systems, etc do more for the driver than the car. Any horsepower gains are minimal but if you want a deeper exhaust note or think the stock air box is restrictive, by all means put a CAI and/or an exhaust system on the car.

There is no such thing as a chip to improve anything. The only thing chips improve is the bank account of the person who sells it to you. If you add the CAI and/or an exhaust system the most gain you will realize will be from removing weight from the car, not from what you've changed.

Then you ARE NOT going to be adding any real WHP to your car.

Boost is the only thing you can add that will significantly add any WHP to an S2000. All the bolts on in the world will only add MAYBE 20 WHP. For the amount of money it will take to add that 20 WHP, you might as well have gone with boost.

This topic has been covered here and on the other S2000 sites since 1999. Search around and you will find it to be true.

Nitrous is cheap hp. Just sayin.

Don't need any boost to break 300whp. I'm gonna try this next year.

You need to have the headlights 'cleared' and the bulbs installed. You can do it yourself or have someone else do it for you.

I am not sure if there is a DIY thread on this site or not, but I know there is one over on S2KI.

Well this won't be popular BUT what you SHOULD do is take any added light things the hell off and drive it like your Dad left it to you. I wouldnt change a damn thing and I would take care of that car like nothing else. I would also think of my dad every time I looked at it.
And everytime some bonehead kid said "HEY DOOD YOU SHOULD BLA BLA BLA TO THIS BIOTCH" you tell him this is the way my father drove it and this is the way I'm gonna drive it. And POOR you having to drive a stock S2000!
It's a remarkable thing if you been sitting on this car for 7 years after Dad died.
I think you should re-think everything. Treat it right.
Thats what I think. Theres nothing you can slam on that car cheap to improve much. A tastefull, properly engineered boost job is very expensive and if not properly done can shorten the life of the car radically. Take your time. Think of what you got cuz you got alot. Drive it with respect.

hahah hey H20, you actually sound like you could be his dad haha

As I have said before, I don't understand why people act like our S2000s are more than they actually are. This kid obviously got something we all wished we did when we were 18. He obviously sounds like he is going to care for it and mod this car, pretty much what 99% of s2000 owners do.

Sorry guys but some of you guys sound like s2k nazis

Well, that is what you get when you ask a large group of people for an opinion on something. Just because you may not like the answer given by some doesn't mean those people are Nazis.

I agree. Maybe I am too "fatherly" seeing how I have a 16 yr who drives now And the comment made me laugh.

The car has enough power to take out an inexperienced driver. Learn to drive it before looking for more power. If the tires are original, that's the first thing to change. They may look fine, but they're old and can blow at the least opportune time. Like maybe when you're pushing it to the limit. If H2O is a father figure, I'm your grandpa and was lucky enough to survive this long and learn something.

jpetch05 I have added an exhaust and cold air intake (cai) to my car. Neither gave any performance to the car. (asides from setting off random car alarms) If you want anything get an exhaust. Then buy good tires and learn to drive. This car by no means is an ego car. So if you got a big ego... go find a Vette and tear the hell outta that to make it fast in a straight line. Life is in the corners and how you take them... really dont need hp for that... you need skill.

If the car has indeed been sitting for 7 years be sure to yank the fuel pump fuse and crank it over for a few seconds to get some oil circulating before you start it for the first time. Make sure you change all fluids too as over time they turn acidic.

My map sensor never reads over 100Kpa. In other words, it never reads over 1 bar which is what NA cars run. No boost, just more volume of air.

I don't get why people say nitrous is boost either.

TCG, where the hell is the fuel pump relay/fuse?

i did an oil change and could NOT find anything online or anything under the hood labeled ECM/FUEL PUMP to yank so i could crank it over.

nm found it, i was on my phone when i was changing the oil and couldnt find anything:

Remove the fuel pump fuse to depressurize the fuel lines. (Blue fuse, 2nd from bottom on left column, pointed to by the metal pick.)

yeah thanks guys.. after doing some research im not doing anymore then a cai and exhaust at the maximum. hp is not what i am looking for anymore. reading over 20 pages states the car is perfect the way it was made. i mistook allot of what kids do to cars these days into almost trying to mess with the s. and the car hasnt been sitting completely haha it just hasnt been driven like a normal car. its been well maintained though. thanks for all the advice. i think im just going to throw a cai in it and maybe a lip for looks. not goin for hp anylonger. thanks a bunch, and your all right, he wouldnt have wanted me to mess with the car in any way ive been thinking of.

and for the record h20 thanks, but im keepin the lights haha, they look good haha ill post some pics later, thanks..

That wasnt a lecture from a father figure "haha". A guy asked for advice and I gave him some. And it was good advice. I'm no father figure Ray. Or a role model. Plainly.
I'll give some more advice too. An 18 year old kid who doesnt know a nut from a bolt shouldnt go mucking up a jewel like an S2000. Thats just advice. Or maybe it's opinion. Whatever.
And the lights do look kinda cool. He made it his and that's his right.
But leave it to Phil to think of the tires. They are definately unsafe.

S2000's ARE more then they actually are. Thats why. How can you not see that?? Does that car make you smile? What does it do for you? Mine does a hell of a lot more then a lump of plastic and metal should do.

J,
You're very lucky to have such a great dad. If I were in your shoes, I wouldn't touch a thing and just enjoy the car and the memories in his honor.
