Ahhhh...at last

Hi All. Just bought myself an early B'day present...a 2002 S2000...Suzaka Blue, 25K miles, already with a cold air intake (I think that's good, right?). Been looking at various sports cars for the past few years, but decided on the S2000 for its price and "fun factor." Anything special I should know about the car in general (mechanical quirks, maintenance tips, worthwhile enhancements, etc.)? Really looking forward to getting involved with club events. All replies welcome! P.S. I'm located in the Murrieta/Temecula area of SOCAL. Anyone in the area want to show me the ropes and fun drives in the area?

Tim

Congrats on the new car and welcome to the site. I have friends that live down there. I can't believe how much that place has grown and how expensive the housing has gotten.
If you bought the car from a private party, I would change all the fluids so you know they have been done.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm a transplanted MD/VA boy (retired Naval Flight Officer, most of my time in the Norfolk, VA area) so I'll take your word as to the growth. As for the prices....OMG!! Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected to pay 1/2 mil plus for a house ( but it is a nice house). Anyway, the car.... It's "certified" from the dealer and has a bumper-bumper warranty (for a small price) through 2009 or 100k miles (I'm thinking 2009 will be here before the 100K with 25K on it now), so I'm assuming they did the fluid changes. Then again, you know what happens you assume....
Really looking forward to driving my car. Probably will "baby" it regarding miles, but will continue to "drive it like I stole it" when in it.
Looking forward to hooking up with other "Stewie" owners for outings (does Java Junkie have the rights to "Stewie", or can I use it too...it's catchy!)

Since you got it from a dealer and they have put the extended warrenty on it, I would also guess they checked the fluids. I wouldn't worry or spend the money knowing that. You might want to go back to the dealer and see if you can get a copy of their service records on the car.

Talking Drive that thing like you stole it!

Hey Tim. Here is cool thing you can do to your car once in awhile.. Drop the clutch @ 5000 RMP! You can kick a mustang booty with that! Cheer!

Pop it at (gulp...) fi-fi-five K?

Sounds great! Makes me a little nervous, though. From what I've read on here, the car is pretty indestructable. Popping it at 5,000 RPM certainly sounds exciting. Please assure me that it's built to take it...? I'm still not sure of it's design limits (or mine!).

Talking 5k rmp pop.

Oh yeah! It would withstand that without a problem, at least my car did. One time I dumped the clutch at a higher rmp but that was unintentional, the andranaline got a hold of my right foot, so the imediate side effect was the smell of the clutch and the rubber, other then that it was a real rush So, don't do it often ok.

It's your car, do with it as you wish. As for clutch dumps, they are not my cup of tea. I have learned that the smell of a burned clutch is not a good thing.

Yeah, yeah . . I know Go is wrong about which of the model years is the superior S2000, but his view of "clutch dumps" (the word dump should give you some idea of how vehicle-friendly it is) is right on the money.
You're seriously gonna do that with the car you paid money for and expect it to go on operatin' in a reliable fashion? Well then . . I got this here bridge I'm sellin' . .
Dunno Tim . . I'd save clutch-dumpin' for the beater Camaro that you could jus' pull the plates off of n' jus' walk away when it @*#&s itself.
This is a serious case'a "like the old knight said . . .
Be well.

Talking clutch dump

Like I said guys. Don't do it often, and I'm not asking any of you to do it. But then how would you even know if you haven't done it before. So, at least I have done it and live to tell to those that haven't, or may be never. But when that moment arises you now know that you could. For crying out loud; this is a Honda!

I know that without doing it. I know I can get the S up to 135 miles per hour, but I don't have to do it to KNOW it can.

Honda's aren't indestructable.

clutch dump at your own risk..

ok. ok... I'm not asking any one to do what I did.. Your car do what you want, baby it whatever... It is just my horror story and others and I am just telling mine ok... Don't be offended! I also didn't say the car is indestructable, but at least it is very very reliable. But what car out there would let you rev it all day long and don't blow a valve seat? And again, I'm trully sorry that I've upset you and others.

By the way, the S2K actually go up to 175 miles per hour in 6th & at red line 9000 rpm. It takes 1 minute 15 seconds to get there! But please don't try this everyone, this may do harm to your car and even be fatal to you. Honest!
