I would have the tranny and diff fluid changed if they haven't been recently. Those seem to be the ones that get over looked the most often.

Congrats on the new car and welcome to the site.

After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Hi Ar, the most reassurin' thing that I got out'a your intro was that it was stock. Stock (devoid of any off-roadin' due to driver over-exhuberance) the Honda should be jus' barely broken in at 74.
But I'm with Go on what to check jus' to be on the safe side.
This is for the site Stewie-knowledge wizards: What, specifically, could be checked to verify that no damage has been done by bouncin' it off the rev limiter (I know, I know. None of us do that. But, on the slim chance that someone not as capable as us had been windin' 'er out unprepared for the suddenness of that @*#&in' VTEC thingy)
Best of luck with it Ar, n' welcome aboard.

Welcome to the fraternity (no sexism implied) of S2K owners. Like, you, and am new to the car and loving it!

Oooo....that reminds me, Java. I HAVE been guilty on just two or three occasions of hitting the rev limiter (sure does get your attention when it engages, doesn't it?). I'm assuming that I'm not doing any (much?) damage with the occasional, and purely unintentional, trip to 9K. Thoughts?

The way Stewie climbs the tach when it gets near the "outer limits", I can't imagine that anyone who drives the car hasn't visited our own personal version of "hey stupid, take your foot out'a it".
But mother Honda probably had a clue that this kind'a thing was gonna happen on occasion. I'm assumin' here, but it only makes sense that they set the limiter to prevent any damage. Bouncin' off it is embarrassin' (so I've been told) but I don't think that it has any other unsavory aspects.
But I'd feel alot better hearin' this backed up by one of our more "with it" Stewie experts. (N' yes. That's almost all of 'em)
Be well.

resurrection..

Hey all, I have been doing some searching on hitting the rev limiter and I found this but wasn't satisfied with how the thread ended. I down shifted to second at about 35mph and the limiter snuck up on me in a flash... needless to say now I am nervous even though the car seems to be running fine.

Can anyone support Java's theory above as to weather the tranny/engine is ok after bouncing off the limiter. This is the first time I've done this .

ya I scared the crap outta myself. I hit 2nd instead of 4th at like 70mph back tires screched and all. Luckly I hit the clutch fast that it lasted a fraction of a second. After another 400miles she seems fine. Ego is a bit damaged of my foolishness but ill be ok.

Everybody listen up.... I unburied this thread from 2006 trying to research the effects of hitting the limiter. This was the only relative thread based on my research and I need some feedback. I don't even know if the dude is still a member. If anybody has naything to add to Java's comments please let all of us know. I'm sure i'm not the only one who has hit the rev limiter.

Thanks

The way I see it is there's two different ways to hit the rev limiter.

The first is while accelerating and just staying in gear a little too long. I've done it intentionally a few times and there doesn't seem to be any problems because of it. It's electronically controlled and designed for this purpose.

The second is not so friendly. Dropping to a gear that's too low for the speed of the car. The rev limiter may try to do it's job, but the mechanical link between the rear wheels and the engine won't allow it. The rpm of the engine WILL be determined by the speed of the car and the gear selected.

Example (AP2): You're doing about 75 miles per hour, 4000 rpm in 6th gear and you drop it to 2nd gear instead of 4th. The car is still doing about 76 miles per hour when you push the clutch in, so when you let the clutch out (in 2nd gear), the engine WILL be going well over 10,000 rpm because it is being forced to that speed by the rear wheels, regardless of what the rev limiter is doing. This is not good.

2nd gear at 35 miles per hour doesn't sound too bad to me.

I could not have said it any better. I think you are on target.

PS you're pretty smart for an old guy

The car will do over 60 in second, so if you shifted down at 35 and went up to red line, no problem.

Nobody reads the dates, right? Thanks Joechy for resurrecting this for good reason, but really, people, don't welcome a guy who hasn't posted since December...

I actually hit the limiter last month for the first time and didn't think anything about it (other than the oops factor) - I figured it was there for the reason that it was there.

Damn, he's right. There are indeed dates on these.

I've done the same thing many times. I went on a search on another S forum and brought up one that I made an entry on then realized the last post was 3 years back
