Hey guys! Anyone care to convince me to buy an s2000?!
Hi all,
As you can see i'm new here. As of right now i'm looking to buy an s2000. I'll be using it as a daily/track car. I plan to supercharge. Right now i have an e46 m3, but somethings telling me s2000 right now! haha. Convince me please!!!
Pics of said car:

Yes i used to go by PrittyM3 on bimmer forums haha!

As it sits right now.
Looking forward to learning a whole new car!

We don't need to convince you. All you need to do is go test drive a nice example of an S2000. If you don't love it, then you shouldn't get one. The S2000 is a purpose built driver's car and you can't go wrong with choosing one for serious driving.

Hey RMurphy,
I appreciate the response! I already have a test drive lined up with a friend who owns an ap2. I guess i was looking for something s2000 owners could brag about. I Know many of my m3 buddys who will go on and on about why the m3 is better than this and that. Haha Let me give you an example: I told a friend my plan to sell the m3 for a supercharged s2k, when he went on talking about our 3.2L straight 6's and why i would even consider trading that for a tiny 190 WHP producing engine. How it's a honda blah blah blah. I guess theres just nothing to brag about the s2000's.

People who feel the need to brag are compensating for something. Why not let the car do all the talking?

I don't know if i agree with that. Each Car has it's own ups and downs. You sound like your living the life of a character from "The Fast and the Furious"
Here since you seem to be incapable of supporting your own car let me help:
Pros: Better handling, gas mileage, faster(Once supercharged), Cheaper maintenance, cheaper modding.
Cons: Less luggage space, Less of a "mature" car as some may say(I understand, this is completely opinion based), Two seats.
*All of these comparisons were compared to a stock E46 M3.
Anyone care to add to the list?
This forum seems to be of little to no help... so far. Thank you to the above who gave it an attempt. Hopefully i'm incorrect and this forum does have some kind of use.

You can buy a Mustang and go as fast as you want (for a while). Nobody here is a used car salesman. If you know what you want, you don't need anyone to "convince" you. Stay with the BMW, you need those $250 oil changes.

I've got some advice for you......keep your used up BMW.
You seem well suited to each other.
one of the secondary purposes of this forum is to steer d-bags away from buying S2000's......don't want you tainting the gene pool, ya know ?
have a rainbow day, 'n please stop huffing the rattle-can paint.

BMW owners everywhere take note, its people like this that give you a bad reputation.
Please go away, no one here wants to brag about their cars, no one here wants to convince a known douchebag to buy one, no one here want to spend anymore time talking to or about you.

Just for clarification, not all BMW owners fit the open collar and gold chains crowd JJ. In fact the vintage and pre-late seventies BMW owners are quite civilized.

Wonder why he says that...
OH previous BMW owner. Got it!
My stepmom saved up her money and bought a brand new 3 series cash (in the late 80s). It was a pretty cool car. As a kid my dad would let me shift it while he drove around the neighborhood. I thought that was pretty nifty. Not as cool as my dads 'Cuda though. He didnt let me shift that...

Hey all, I see you guys got worked up over a few posts. No i'm not a troll just trying to get into an s2k.
"Here, let me help you find your **** with both hands. Go f**k yourself."
Is this what you say when you have nothing mature to say? Nothing to actually back yourself up? Good job, Typical honda guy here.
"BMW owners everywhere take note, its people like this that give you a bad reputation.
Please go away, no one here wants to brag about their cars, no one here wants to convince a known douchebag to buy one, no one here want to spend anymore time talking to or about you."
I'm sorry can you point out exactly what i said that made me seem douchy? I simply came in here asking for a little knowledge of a car you guys may or may not know well. i DID NOT come in here saying BRO i gotta bimmer and you guys have honda's" Don't get me wrong guys, i think your guys cars are great (hence the reason why i want to get in one).
"Stay with the BMW, you need those $250 oil changes."
Oil changes are 60 dollars for me.
"Could be. *shrugs* Someone could give him a call and find out if he is as much of a, um, er, uh, great guy as his posts here indicate.

Feel free to call me, we could talk about s2000's. And maybe you'll see i'm a very down to earth guy. Also i'm your neighbor "west la"! maybe we could meet up for a cup of coffee. i'd like to meet you, hit the canyons, and have a good time.
*Message to everyone*
I'm not a troll. I don't know where i was an ******* or douche in this thread. My number is in that post. Feel free if you wish to talk to me.

Well, we may have seemed a little harsh but you kinda brought it upon yourself, first with your post title "Anyone care to convince me..." We just don't do that. Then proceeding to tell Roseanne (that's right she's a woman) she's incapable of supporting her car. Roseanne just happens to be one of our better drivers and senior/respected posters. "This forum is of little or no help...." Well, that just not the way for a newcomer to make friends. I could go on, but I think you get the message.
Good luck with your test drive, that's the best way to find out if the car is for you. If you decide to get the car and stay, you'll find out about the S and about the people in this community. Good luck with your search.
(sorry Gun, you beat me to the punch)

Yeah i understand gunvolovo. I'll agree with those did sound a little cocky especially as a newbie on this forum. I tried to keep it mature as were on an online forum. I do believe you guys did come off a little rough on the newbie. I understand that's normal.
I did appreciate a fellow member pming me with some useful knowledge. Ill let him stay anonymous unless he wants to reveal himself, thats his choice.
"Not really sure why they all jumped on you like that but anyway test drive one. S2000's handle very well. It's their biggest strength. The AP1s are known to be a little tail-happy though. The engines can handle high RPMs reliably. VTEC kicks in at abut 6K. Stock engines altready have forged components and can handle about 25 pounds of boost without problem. Engines are hand built. The looks and reactions you get when you drive around in a S2000 is one of my favorite parts about owning this car. Lots of people give you a thumbs up! Hope this helps you and good luck!"
Thanks bud!

I think it was this line that was disturbing:
"Here since you seem to be incapable of supporting your own car let me help"
I don't think anyone is incapable; I have to agree w/ letting the car do the talking. You went on to list your own and seemed to need little help in that dept.
In any case, I don't think you were looking for trouble- sometimes **** just comes out wrong or is misunderstood. With that said, here is my 2 cents- having driven an M3 only once but logging about 100K on and off the street in an S2k....
M3 > S2000
Torque and power comes on much much earlier making quick pulls easier, less noticable
Stylish plush ride
Rear seat
Larger trunk
More refined interior and features
S2000>M3
*50/50 weight distribution (I believe the M3 is close though?)
*More rare (At least in Connecticut)- Everyone knows an M3 but I love brining pple up to speed on the s2k goodness
*Raw. I love the raw feeling of AP1. You are much more connected to the road than an M3.
*Clutch and shift throw are like butter compared to M3
*Cheap, reliable and easy to work on.
*MPG / Fun= S2000
*More comfortable
Some of the above is my personal opinion, of course. And I could go on but running out of time.... In short, I feel the S2000 offers much more bang for your buck. I am sure, however, their are tons of cats out their that could have afforded either but picked up the S.
You can do all the research you want (Their are billions of threads like these on every honda/bmw forum...) but you need to drive it man!

Sorry for not multi quoting all of these. i keep noticing them after i post. Yes it is over the kbb price. It's not a car that's meant for any owner. it will take time for someone to buy as it's an enthusiast car. if someones looking for a unique/ track ready/ streetable/ convertible (Socal!!!) then this is the right car. Winters gone and summers coming!

btw, I bought a 99 M3 coupe last year with 94k miles on it. (Mario, I'm watching you) While it's a nice car, it doesn't come close to comparing with my '08 S. Although, new to new I'm not sure if the S would be that far ahead, if at all.

Yeah, that's me, absolutely. Yeah. Ya totally hellaslammed me there, dude. Since when do I owe you any explanation why I chose the car I did? Who the hell died and gave you the rights to interrogate me on my choices? I am not forcing anything down your throat so why do I need to offer you any kind of explanation to "back myself up?"

Thanks for warning me that my "neighbor" might walk up to me while I'm sitting in my driveway and, out of the blue, ask me to defend my choice in cars and convince him why he should buy one as if I'm some kind of salesman or something. Get a clue.
Not interested in calling you. I posted the link to point out that you aren't a troll. You may have the mentality of one, but you don't fit the strict definition of the term.
If you want to know why we all love our cars here, don't barge in jumping up and down and demand we "convince" you of anything. Drive the car (or even a few examples of the car) then take it or leave it. Make up your own mind, for crying out loud. You can decide what you do and don't like, can't you?
If you want to know what we love about the car, read the forum.
If you want to know why each one of us made the choice we did, read the forum.
If you want to know what makes the fire in our eyes gleam, read the forum.
If you want us to spoon feed you reasons to help you build an argument for or against YOUR decision, go someplace else.
If, after reading what we have all taken years to discuss and post here, you still have specific questions (like "why should I maybe NOT immediately decide I'm going to supercharge a car I've never even driven yet?"), then post that specific question.
Your intro left more than just a lot to be desired.
If you took the time to read anything about this little community, you would have known your manner of entry would not be well received. You would also know you don't need to invite me out for coffee or a drive. If you want to drive with a group of car enthusiasts, many owning S2000s from this very forum, we drive the last Sunday of every month. Details are (shock!) on this forum in the West regional section.
And last, but not least, it is VERY poor form to repost what someone sends you in a PM unless they specifically say it's okay to repost it. While the author of that PM might not mind, you should not assume such a thing. If they PM'd you, they did it because they wanted to PM -- Private Message.

I've always been a huge fan of that M3...I even considered buying one on several occassions... That being said, the S has ALWAYS been my Eleanor and I would not change it for the world. I would even buy an M3 eventually but would still keep my S. There's just too many pros about this vehicle overall to just replace it...IMO

Jeeezus, Java! Don't you have enough pets already? I mean, criminy! And don't even try that bit about "Oh! I promise I'll take care of him! And I'll take him for walks and feed him and give him baths!" We all know that lasts for about a week and then it will be pulling teeth to get you to do *anything* with him.

You sound like your living the life of a character from "The Fast and the Furious"
Here since you seem to be incapable of supporting your own car let me help:
I guess theres just nothing to brag about the s2000's.
This forum seems to be of little to no help...
Hopefully i'm incorrect and this forum does have some kind of use.
I simply came in here asking for a little knowledge of a car you guys may or may not know well.

Can you see it now? You seem to think that because we dont care to brag about our cars like 16 year old internet bench racers that we don't know anything about them.
You are not a car enthusiast by any measure if you think cars are simple bragging rights. We can already see by your desire to supercharge a car that you have never driven that this is so.
Please keep your BMW, it seems like the perfect car for you. Its got good power, adequete handling and at this point is probably worth more to you than to anyone else (pointless mods).
