hello

Hey everyone. Well im looking to buy an s2k or know alot about them. im from miami and my sort of transportation right now is a cbr600rr6, people tell me to let go off the bike and buy a car. A few thousand miles and a broke wrist later i've come to notice that girls dont like bikes or they are too scared to ride them which is a problem for me. So i've decided that i want an s2k,2 seats, high revving, and what a frame. My friend had a 2000 and traded it for a new gti, when i asked him why did he do that he replied " it was too loud for an everyday and it was problem after problem" i refuse to believe that you cant drive the s2k as an everyday car. im 18 years old(going to 19) and i know this car will cost me alot but how much am i especting here 1000 a month including insurance ? I've also asked my friend what model should i get the 2.0 or the 2.2 and he said the 2.2 will be better as an everyday. I just want opinion from s2k drivers, am i crazy for thinking of getting this car or should i get a 2.0 or 2.2, whats the life on the engines? or should i just keep my bike and forget about an s2k.

Thankx and sorry for the mess.

It was to loud??????????????????????????/ Mine only gets loud at 120 miles per hour lol. Problems all cars have problems and this one doesn't have more or less then others. Plus he traded it in on a gti so right there you know all opinions he may have on cars are voided. The s2000 is a good and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Much more reliable then the gti's my friends have had. If you are 18 with a bike and the ladies arent coming I dunno what to tell you you may need a lambo hehe. Even Java is picking up the hunnies on his. By the way welcome to the forum. The s is a nice car. I think you will like it remember wind it out on the test drive to be sure 6 k wont do it. You will have to figure out payments and stuff not something we can do.

lol a lambo would be nice. the cbr gets alot of looks and im sure the ladies love it but that doesnt mean they get on it. i've got alot of "its too close to the pavement" and every parent i've met practually throws me out of their house just cause i have a bike. with an s2k i wont have to worry about that. also it gets kinda dangerous riding a bike as an everyday in miami i think my death rate goes up like 60% hehehe all in all its fun but i need a car and this is the only car i would give my bike up for.

Hi Jt n' welcome aboard. We've had this topic come up quite often n' if I was adept at this computer stuff, I'd jus' copy n' paste one of my old responses, but that ability seems to be evadin' me at the moment, so in a rare bit of brevity (once you read some of my posts on the site, you'll understand) let me jus' say that buyin' a used one that's been unmolested (remains stock) is probably the safest way to go n' will likely yield you a very reliable daily-driver (I've been beatin' mine everyday since April, '05). That's not to say that you couldn't pick up a deal on one that's been altered with add-ons, but some of the stuff I've seen added onto Stewie hasn't always been performance improvin' n' in some cases has taken away from the car's ability to stick as well as it could to the road, a nasty bit of surprise when it's realized.
And as far as an earlier r' later model, well, if you're interested in Stewie, it would kind'a indicate that you take your drivin' seriously. While the acceleration of both models is different on paper, it doesn't make itself obvious to most of us on the street. The handlin' of each of the models is night n' day though. The differences aren't somethin' that, I believe, can be related from one driver to another. We all have our own ratin' methods n' levels.
Go down to the local used car dealer n' find the hungriest guy on the lot. Give 'im money n' see that you get some wheel time in each model. It's the only way that you're really gonna be able to tell which one is for you.
(And yes. For me, that was brief)
Be well, and like the old knight said . . . .
Java
P.S. If you can, keep the bike too. Every once in a while it's good to have somethin' really fast aroun' jus' to keep things in perspective.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Thankx for the welcome guys. Hey Java thanks for not copying and paste =). Well i when to my local dealer and im hoping to go to some outter city dealers on the weekend. Well i got to test drive both =D and let me tell you im in love. Im hoping to buy the AP1, i like that it revs up to 9k(the higher the better, it will remind me of the cbr) also i dont know if its just me but the AP1 handles better. The things i liked about the AP2 is mostly cosmetic things, the leather instead of the carpet, lights you know the basics. Now i want to ask you guys what is good mileage for a used s2k?

Well, with me, it's most always 'roun' 20 to the gallon. But, I'm guessin' that you're talkin' about the mileage that's on the clock from the poor guy that's partin' with it n' sellin' it.
Obviously less is usually considered better, but with the way the li'l fella's put together, I wouldn't worry about it until you start lookin' at units with, say, 50 thou.
Now, I'm talkin' units that've been left stock. Anything that's been "customized" to suit previous owner's "taste" (usually "lack of") n' all bets r' off.
But, to be truthful, that's got reasonable considerations too. If it's jus' harmless add-ons that can be easily removed n' brought back to stock (if that's your taste), no foul. If it's stuff that goes deeper than that . . . it can be a real crap shoot.
Be well.

Re: Mileage and AP1 v. AP2

From what I know of this car, mileage isn't too much of an issue. We tend to lean towards cars with the lowest mileage/dollar ratio, but (and guys, chime in any time), with a little TLC, and what Stewie owner doesn't treat his car this way, it can last for 300,000 miles. We tend to see used Stewies with low mileage because MOST owners don't use it as a daily driver, hence it's their "fun car" and used a few days/week.

As for which version to get, I have a 2002 (AP1) which I enjoy to the max. BUT, it does lack some of the niceties that the new models have that would lend themselves to enhancing the experience as a daily driver. Either one will give you the adrenalin pump you're looking for (driven "properly"), but if you're going to use it as a daily, my rec is to look hard at the newer models (you AND your date can put your Starbucks in a cupholder!). Either way, you'll be happy.
