Should I buy a S2000?
Hey everyone, My name is Tim Carter, I own a performance shop out of Rock Falls, IL.
I currently own a 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS 2.4L. Although I love the car, Im kinda wanting something new. The Honda S2000 is the only Honda id ever consider owning, and they are sweet cars. I "test drove" one about a year ago (was an 06) back when I worked for a Chevy Dealership, and we got one in on a trade...so I took it up the street and back. It was very fun. My question to you is, what kind of power are you guys seeing out of these on stock internals with bolt ons & a turbocharger? Thanks! |

Standard bolt on SC will be about 300 WHP.

Not even close. Maybe 220 WHP and that's a BIG maybe. It would have to be an AP2 with quality matched parts, cool day, low humidity, low altitude, and a generous dyno.

Hmm, did Honda decide that 240 was just a good number to put up? I know it's much faster than my Integra which was rated at around 175.
Or am I just a n00b and all cars are silly like this and dyno far below what they are rated for? |

There is a typical loss of about 12-20% from crank HP and wheel HP in any car. The S is no exception. There are factory 'freaks' that put out 205 and others that come in at 191. It all depends on weather conditions, how the engine was broken in, how many miles are on the engine, dyno, dyno operator, modifications, etc.

Ah, so they posted it as 240 crank when all that really matters is what it puts down in WHP. So I guess the estimate of 175 on the Integra was a little high since that's the factory spec.

I've seen stock internals up to 440HP on an AP2. It was turboed. The car isn't driven much, but I know he's put around 5000 miles on the car with its current set-up.

Rob Green Motorsport
RGM in South Africa got 404 hp at the wheels of my 2.0l S2000 with a bolt on vortex supercharger The rest of the world got the 2.2l version I think.
Other than the charger ... the setup is stock. Only other mod I did were the brakes, for Obvious reasons ![]() Forgot to mention that I've done 16000 kms since then ( +-10 000 miles ) Trouble free |

Get one....!
Welcome;
I'm new too! As far as picking up a new s2k; I say do it! 4 weeks ago I traded in my 2005 P.O.S. Vette, and got a gray/silver 07 s2k. The Vette, although faster, doesn't hold a candle to it! I fact, last night, up on hwy 9, near san jose, ca. I tangled with a 2006 vette. I was expexting to get my doors blown off, but in the turns we were pretty much even..... As far a supercharging there are a couple of companies, but most seem to lean toward Comptech. Actually, I also plan to installed a S.C., probably Comptech, In a month or two. I was thinking about turbo, but heard of a local s2k owner the smoked his engine a few weeks ago.....I was told that somehow the oil pan was sucked dry,...and BOOM! sbks2k |
