Talking Checkin' in from Orlando

Hey all,

Bought a Silverstone S2K (model year 2000) about three weeks ago. I'm totally amazed. First 2-seater ever but had my eye on the 2K since they first came out (my son pointed one out to me).

One of the first things was to change out the audio system. I noticed when listening to Pink Floyd with the top down that David Gilmour's guitar riffs sounded mushy. At first I thought the speakers were trashed but a knowledgeable friend told me I need new HU, amp, sub, as well as new speakers. Low power systems don't cut it in a convertible. So I did all that and what a difference. Even my wife notices the change.

I noticed that sometimes shifting is not smooth. I can feel a little grinding, especially between 2nd and 3rd. It seem to be smoother at higher RPM's. The previous owner had the clutch replaced under warranty. I've read that the transmission has got it's problems.

One thing missing is the boot for the convertible top. The previous owner said they are a pain to put on but I think it would look a lot better. If anyone knows where I might find a replacement, I'd appreciate it.

Hoping to join some rally's and compare notes with other owners in Fla. I'm enjoying the forums available on the web. Lots of good info.

C' ya, soon.

welcome and boot

welcome to the site. it's good to meet someone else my age. there are a few of us "mature" owners on the site.

i actually priced a boot from honda and it was close to $800.00. right after i bought my 02 s2000, i noticed that there was no boot in the trunk. the dealer did not want to give me one, but i pointed out that it is part of the original equipment and he needs to get me one, which he did. i have used it maybe 2 or 3 times as it is kind of a pain to put on and take off. but the car does look very good with it on. i'm sure you can probably find a used one on line, but personally i don't think i'd spend the money. good luck.

Welcome to the site. I had troubles hearing my music when I drove as well until I added S-Pods. That was the only change I made and it made all the difference in the world.

As for the boot, they come up on eBay often. Some people ask $200 or more and get it. I found two last week that went for just over $50. Keep an eye out and they show up. I have mine and use it everyday. After a little practice it only takes a couple of minutes to install.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Welcome to the site! I think the top cover looks good on the S2000 too. I just hate having to put it on. Out of the 3 1/2 years I've had my S, I think I've used it a total of 3-4 times.

I've got two boots and use neither. One is brand new, the other as good as new. If you're still interested, let me know.
