New guy here

Whats up Y'all, my name is Greg and I'm a student at Texas Christian University (GO FROGS). I currently drive a 2004 Honda Civic SI and even though its a fun to drive and pretty quick on its feet im looking for a little more oomph, this is what brings me to the S2000. I have been looking around on autotrader and what not and have found a few 01-02 S2000 that are in my price range (I'm looking to break about even on what I could get for my Civic). I found one in particular that seems like a good deal but almost a little sketch. Its a 2001 with 48,000 miles going for 14,400... the guy says he is also willing to trade.
Now My question is this...

-Does that seem to good to be true?
-Can you replace the plastic back window with a glass one?
-Do you guys experience any gear grinding with the 2001 S? because my 04' civic does and it can be a pain.
-Is it just me or does it look like this only has one exhaust pipe?
-If you were me would you trade the civic for the S2000, keep in mind I am a 20 year old college student who dosnt have tons of cash.

Here is the link if you want to look at it...

I got my '01 S2000 through craigslist. It's in excellent condition (no dings, great paint, interior perfect, new top). It had 49,500 miles on it. I picked it up for 15k (cash talks). He was 53 years old and had hip arthritis (hard to get out of the car). It helped that he was in the sticks where eveyone drives pickups. If he was here in Santa Barbara, he could have gotten at least 2k more.
I guess what I'm saying is, try craigslist and check outlying areas. Sounds like you may have a good deal, but best to check it out real good.

Well Ep, as much'z I'm biased towards the Stewies, your Civic is a known quantity. Anything that you're pickin' up without havin' any idea of it's history is a big unknown.
On the good side'a this is the fact that Honda does their homework n' puts together some pretty reliable vehicles. Chances are that most Hondas that you're gonna look at have godda lodda life left in 'em . . chances are.
Bottom line is that you're the one in the catbird seat. The deal is only done when you say it is. Whatever you decide on, check it out really well. Bring in a wrench (mechanic-for-hire) if you godda. 'Cause once you hand over the cash, any problems with it are your problems.
Good luck Ep, n' be well. N' like the old knight said . . .

Without checking the car inperson, it is hard for me to tell.

Yes. There is a TSB about it and many have had it fixed by the dealer for free. Some have had to pay.

From the 1 picture that is available, I would say it has an aftermarket single exhaust. You could contact the seller and ask.

If you personal means can not maintain the car, I would say no. If you can afford the cost of any payments that may be involved and the increase in insurance and fuel (remember, it takes super), then go for it.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

I would think long and hard about it. Java's right, Honda makes an excellent car (as you probably already know). But Without knowing, you'd have to assume that such a car has been driven hard! Get a mechanic to come with... and if you haven't alraedy done so, drive a few cars... '03 or earlier, so at least you have a sense as to how the cars are supposed to feel.

Gomarlins and Java always have good advice. Just keep in mind that the S2000 does cost a little more to have than your Civic. If you can make the payments, go for it! I was 20 when I bought mine and did a ton of research on how much the car will cost before I was ready to buy. Good luck with your decision!!

BTW - I have a friend that goes to TCU, GO FROGS!!

Let us know how it works out for you. Maybe one day we can light 'em up over on Berry St.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I called the guy today and am going to go drive it in a week or two. He said there was some body damage to the front panel but he works at a body shop and he did all the work, so I guess I will see what it looks like for myself.

Spa-Who do you know that goes to TCU? I know a few guys from CO.

Swingle- I would be glad to light'em up with you anytime, just not on Berry Street, its seriously one of the worst roads I have EVER driven on (wait thats every road in ft. worth)

Her name is Stephanie, she's gone there for two- three years. Not sure about her last name.
