Test drove an '07 Laguna Blue today

Well, I have 100k miles on my '01 Spa yellow and I have had to make a bunch of repairs in the last year that are making me think I need a new car. Today, I went to get a rental car because I have an issue with my S (I think it's a rear wheel bearing) and I drove right by a Honda dealership that I didn't know was near my house. I decided to stop in and there were 2 laguna blues, one outside, one inside. I took the one outside for a spin and it was nice. I want it, my wife wants me to get it, but I am hesitant because we already have a lot of credit card bills to pay and some other debt. We just sold her condo which alleviates almost $2k a month in extra mortgage, but I want to now put that extra towar the $30-some K in credit cards. Both of our cars are paid off. We also owe her parents about $80k that they took out of their retirement to help us buy our house a year ago. All the condo proceeds are going to them except about $5k.

My wife drives a huge Toyota Sequioa and it runs her $80 per fill for gas at least once per week, sometimes more if she goes anywhere other than work. She's thinking she'll drive the '01 while I drive the '07 and I can still take the '01 to the track when I get the bug. The conservative part of me is telling me to buy a cheap Toyota Corolla for her to drive and me keep driving the '01 until we get out from under the bills. Or maybe buy 2 cheap Corolla's for the price of 1 S2000 and REALLY save on gas.

Ok...I'm looking for opinions here from all spectrums.

Maybe you could lease the Laguna blue with an option to buy later. I think Mikeys lease is around $325.00 a month. Afterall the S2000 is going away soon and I don't think you want to be left without one.

PS Will this possible bearing issue keep you from going on our drive this Saturday?

Isn't there a nice formula you plug all of the numbers into, and it will tell you the best course of action?

The rational for buying the new car is that the current one is starting to cost in repairs. But her current car has a high fuel cost. So to me, the deciding factor for her driving your car is if the cost of ownership for it is cheaper than the cost for her car. And does she want the S? Would you then keep the Sequoia?

Do you do many daily miles? Maybe you should take the Sequoia, buy her an inexpensive car and keep the S as a weekend car.

But heck, I am sure not a good role model for cars and keeping costs down.

I just got back from the dealership. They think I have a brake pad issue because it doesn't make the noise until you start driving and heat builds up. I have new pads that I am installing tomorrow. If that doesn't solve the problem, it might affect me going Saturday, but I'm trying to avoid that.

They quoted a lease price of $299/month with $2400 down, but I forgot to ask for how many years it was for andI don't know what the standard is because I've never leased before.

I drive about 20k miles per year, so me driving her Sequioa would be the worst thing to do. We would still keep the Sequioa for long road trips and also keep my current S for track days In fact, I would probably use the Sequioa to trailer the S to the track. She would drive the '01 to work and back for better gas mileage and of course I would drive the new one everyday.

Say Vez, I don't think you're a candidate for leasing, not with 20k a yr worth of driving. I lease but I'm a 10k a yr on average.

However, $299 a mo. sounds like a great lease deal.

I have one year to go on my present lease, then it's lease an 08 with option to buy in 3 years. I don't think I could live without an S in the garage !

PS: are there any Honda sales rep on this forum???

Yeah, I know I drive a lot. My plan was to try to stay within the miles alotted and if I go over, use my '01 for those miles. I have several trips back and forth that I take every and I could use the older car for those to save the mileage if needed.

I like it alot. I've already had a silverstone and a spa yellow. I don't want red or black and don't like suzuka blue. The leaves GPW or Laguna Blue. Blue has always been a favorite color of mine, just never had a car in it. I really want Imola Orange, but it isn't available to the States.

My wife just informed me that she made an executive decision to buy it and I said no. It's killing me to say no because I do want it, but there are higher priorities at the moment.

I hope that reward is in the form of a money tree to plant in my back yard

UGH...I just found a pristine silverstone '01 with a glass window and only 14k miles for sale for $17,500 about 5 miles from my house. I went and looked at it tonight. This is killing me!

Well, my car has been in the shop since last Thursday and it isn't finished yet. The good news is that the one guy said he definitely thinks it's the wheel bearing because it sounds dried up inside. The bad news is the Honda expert that they were going to have help them went on vacation this past weekend and they don't know when he is coming back. I'm driving a Kia rental car for $25/day and it is making long to drive an S again really quick.

I talk to my in-laws hopefully today or tomorrow and find out how I can spend their money or not. Hopefully to pay their taxes which would allow me to get a used car loan.

They took off the hubs today and I took them to a shop to have the new bearings pressed in. They will be done tomorrow morning. Maybe they can finish up tomorrow and we'll see if that's what the problem was.

I love the new Laguna color, it's by far my favorite color. As for whether you should buy it or not, I know I would be VERY upset if someone owned my $80,000 and went and bought a new car before I was paid off.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Got a call from the machine shop this morning. One of my hubs is shot, so I had to order a new one. I bet that was the problem.

Talked to the in-laws last night and got some good news. Not only do I not need to give them all the cash right now, but I am working on a complete re-finance for their house to pay off every debt they have. Also, they asked us if we wanted to split a payment on some nice property in Texas. So, it looks like I'll be buying some property instead of an S for right now. The house is gorgeous, 5 bedrooms for $216k. So, that means 2 loan apps and they only asked for a couple of $G's to hold them over until the re-fi and the rest I can put towards their taxes.

What part of Texas?

We have a couple of houses there, out in the Hill Country near Fredricksburg.

It's called Frisco Ranch and it is in Little Elm, TX, near Plano. The zip code is 75068. The houses are not yet built.

Say Vez, you have some pretty neat in-laws!

If that house was in NJ it'd go for 4 times that amount !!!

Yes, I can not complain one bit. I am like their son and they are very traditional in helping out family.

I know what you mean about housing prices. The house would probably be $1M+ out here in San Diego.
