First Honda

Hi All,

Just bought an Black '02 a couple weeks ago. Only got to drive it 2 days until the snow fell in MN. Now it's parked in the garage. Looking forward to spring already.

I have 2 questions I hope someone can help me with. I need to replace the right front inner fender. Any ideas where I can get one? Probably not many around that have been parted out.

Also, does anyone else have trouble getting the boot on the top when it's down? I can't get the snaps to go in behind the seats. It looks like the top doesn't go down far enough to get the boot to fit right. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Jake

No experience with the inner fender well, however, there's majestic honda that sells parts online and ships. It's dealer prices for new, so it won't be cheap. http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

As for the top not going all the way down, the second bar on the top right above your head, is drawn into the down position using two elastic straps. Since they're just fabric elastic, they wear out. A cheaper aftermarket replacement is offered by Modifry at http://www.modifry.com/products/ctf/index.htm. The page also shows the difference between a top that goes all the way down, and one that has bad elastics.

Hopes this helps.

Welcome to the site and congrats on the new car.

If you wanted to change to the AP2 front bumper, you could go with these fender liners:

Modifry make quality parts for the S. His solution will probably make you top go down easier and your boot fit better.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

How can anything we post be anything but an opinion? No one has access to the actual car, so it's not like we can spend any time or energy actually testing the hypothesis. Should I preface the response with: IMHO?

The top issue is common enough that Modifry created a fix for it. So maybe that's his issue, the car is the right age for it. But what do I know since I can't touch the car. Thanks for providing an informative and helpful post.

Jake eh? Solid.
Welcome aboard Jake. Bein' from MN, I'm sure you'll understan' when I tell ya ta drag a keg up to the potbellied n' set a spell. You've purchased one'a the most satisfyin' pieces'a machinery whut rolls on 4 wheels and (don't get ta use that much, feels strange) you've wandered into the best Stewie site on the web. You're havin' an aces day Jake.
So . . the right front inner fender: piece'a cake. Cheap right from Mother Honda too. If memory serves me it runs in the teens, but memory ain't my strong point. But it is a piece'a cake. You wanna dooitt when it's warm out. They're not at all willin' to make your job any easier when it's cold n' they're stiff. Warm weather turns 'm into a big hunk'a Fruit-Rollup. The plastic push-pins that hold it in cost about as much as the inner fender, but I fall back on the memory disclaimer mentioned above. 'Think it takes like 9 'r 10 uv'em.
I like the li'l fella'z ability to morph it's raggtopp in 6 seconds as it allows you to ride aroun' right up until it actually does start pourin' r' snowin' with the top down. Puttin' anything in the way'a the ability to throw a top up in that 6 seconds jus' seems like such'a waste of another'a Stewies wonderous abilities, so I can't tell ya diddly about the cover . . well, I can say that the ol' Healey tonneaus n' tops always went on easier when it wuz warm n' they could stretch a bit.
Oh . . n', over about 45 'r so, normal rain n' snow jus' blow over the cockpit when you've got the top down.
Well, you've the car, the site n' now you've hadda suffer through one'a my tome responses.
I guess you've been initiated.
Well, except for the secret compartment.
Be well,
Java

Elastic is shot

I had a chance to look at the top last night. Nice to have a heated garage. The elastic straps are worn out, just like you said. I lowered the top and held the bar back where the elastic should hold it. The top went down nice and low and the boot went on better than I thought it would Looks much better when it's on. I feel much better about the top. Now I just have to order the modifry straps and put them it.

Looks like the inner fender isn't as much as I thought from Honda. I'll get one of those on order also.

Thanks for the help,
Jake

Hi Jake,
Welcome to the site.
Looks like we share a few of the same problems,
Living in Canada watching the snow come down sure is depressing, I did sit in the car which is in storage and listened to music.
I have the same issue with my '05s lid. when you get the new elastic installed please post the results, even though my lid ain't gettin lowered 'till spring

Cheers
