Which year?!?

Hey everyone, I just wanted to know people's opinions on what year of s2000 they like best and why. I'm looking at geting an s2000 but I can't decide what year is best. As much information as possible would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jereme

There are a few factors when buying, the newer the s2k the more you'll pay depending on the millage and the aftermarket parts they have.
The ap1 s2000's (2000-2003) with a 2.0l engine have a higher redline (9,000rpm)but some drivers say they feel a little weak in lower rpm's. The ap2 s2000 (2004-2008 ) with a 2.2l engine has a lower redline at (8,000rpm) but the trq was increased.
In some cases a turbo or supercharger will be seen on them which IMO give the ap1 s2k plenty of low end trq.
Exterior body styling and colors were some of the main changes from the ap1 to the ap2 (rims,front/rear bumpers, headlights, taillights)There were also minor interior changes.
I would say find a color you like and when shopping the price, millage, and condition would make or break my decision.
Good luck finding the one for you!

Cbr you have it backwards ap1 is 2.0 and ap2 is 2.2. This topic was just discussed yesterday and quite a few times in the past. Searching will get you tons of good info.

I like the '03 the best. 9k redline, glass back window, more raw handling than the AP2.

Let's see if we can clear some of this up:

As stated above, this is incorrect and backwards. As for some drivers feeling that the AP1's are "a little weak in lower rpm's", the increase in torque was 9 lbs. If you really think you can feel 9lbs of tq. driving around in town, I think you are nuts. You also forgot to mention that the change to the AP2's 2.2 also resulted in a 3 hp loss.

I realize that this is your opinion so I can not say you are wrong, but factually speaking before I had my SC I was at 132 wtq. after VTEC (6200 RPM's), after SC I am at 163. There is more, but I wouldn't call that alot in relation to other cars.

What I am trying to say is that putting a SC on your S will not give you a HUGE increase in tq. What it does do is give you a BUNCH more HP after VTEC. The CT and VT SC run off of the crank pulley so they need lots of revolutions to be effective.

If you want the feel of more tq below VTEC, switch your rear end gears. It's a lot cheaper and many people (including me) think it's the best bang for the buck.

As to the OP's original question, the 2002 sold the most units. That year seems to be the most popular.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Dang you guys are killin me!
IMO means "in my opinion"
I too have a comptech sc and I wouldnt trade it for the world.I've seen riding sport bikes since I learned how to drive so I'm used to 13k rpms or higher and I like the higher redline of the ap1. Body wise I would go ap2 but you couldnt pay me to trade motors for a 2.2...

Oh and BTW any magazine write up you read from when the ap2 came out states how they like the increased trq for a better "city driving" car.
And alot of the reviews I read from the ap1's stated how they lacked trq.
I personally never claimed either...

we can beat this into the ground... for the money i say 02, revised, good adds and the steering ratio is the same as the new cr.(tighter)ap1. in 04
but i found an amazing kit made by a sud company of skunk2 and jackson. i think it is called kraftwerks? i don't know, but it is offered in three stages and the "high boost" trim dynod @400whp!!! supposably real driveable too.. everyone in the s2 community needs to know this one.. check it out at www.templeofvtec.net oh, yeah 02' you could even make a homemade 2002 cr. 16000$K - 38000$K???????? in the ground....

The answer is "Yes".

Meaning, get an s2k. The remaining points are debatable and only weaken us by dividing us. Get a stewie, you won't be sorry.

buy what you can afford, take care of it, drive it like the piece of art it is. Who cares if you have 200 or 223 horsepower, you won't feel the difference and the people admiring it won't care. It's a damn fine car whether it's a AP-1 or AP-2.
