Planning on buying an S

After an extensive review, test drives, and researching im deciding on buying an s2000. Right now im really looking towards an ap2. As for cash Im looking to spend right at $20,000.00

Anyone have any realistic expectations for mileage on an ap2? Anything in particular I should be looking for? As for colors, Im like the silver, but black, and yellow would be great also.

Ive been keeping an eye on craigslist.org for S.F. Bay Area,CA and am willing to drive to pick it up, if anyone happens to find anything that strikes them as a great deal for an s2000 that would be great too.

After selling my previous car while I was in Iraq, I wanted to shop around and feel like ive found a car worth buying!

Hi Mip - welcome aboard. $20K should be able to get you a car that's a few years old without alot of miles. These cars are usually part-time cars for most folks so they don't usually have alot of miles on them. You may find an alarm system or some minor option, but most are equipped the same.

As you may know, Hondas are very reliable, BUT you may want to stay away from anything that's been highly modified. That's usually an indicator that some kid has beaten the daylights out of it. Stock, well maintained cars are easy to find.

As for color, they all look great. It's just whatever you like. I personally will never own another black car. They're beautiful when they're clean but seems like they're never clean.

Check with the dealers in your area. Some recent posts here indicate that a "certified" used car has a good warrenty and may be the way to go.

Keep us posted.

Greetings Mip.

You'll be able to get a nice S2k for the money you're willing to spend. Good luck with the hunt....you've picked some good prey.

welcome aboard Mip.
Those two're a tough tag-team ta follow. 'Nothin' that they said that I'd argue with (n' yes. That does go against my grain.).
Most importantly: purchase with your head, not with the desire found in parts'a the body better used fer other things than thinkin'.
Stewie usually comes upon ya suddenly n' sometimes normal thought doesn't return until you're holdin' the pink slip.
Make yer best deal n' stay away from modded.
'At's aboudditt.
Good luck n' keep us posted,
Java

Good luck on your future purchase Mip. Not knowing too much about the s2000 you wont go far wrong if you take the advice from my previous posting buddies.
The only item that comes to mind is that during the Winter months in some States the weather is bad and s2000 are the last thing they usually sell...............this might be an oppertunity for a good bargain if your willing to travel ?
Anyway best of luck, and keep us posted.

Welcome Mip,
Google is your friend!
I found my Stewie at Autotrader.com
Google used cars and remember that the hunt is 90% of the fun.
The calm colors are great but here on the "redneck riviera" I opted for yellow...Too many Goobers and Gomers with BIG 4wd. trucks....better to be seen than squashed !!! Even though I've only had mine a short time, it's permagrins everytime out !!!! Good luck on your hunt. You won't be disappointed.

So ive been looking all over. These 4 stand out to me, and are all ironically 05's.

I found this one
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/car/547036200.html
I called and can get it for $22,500 w/ 7k miles. Pretty decent but im wary of the seats, might be a bit unconfortable on long drives.

This one too. yellow: http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/car/553391422.html
He was willing to budge on the price a bit, but not as low as $22.5k
24,588 miles.

No idea on the miles of this one. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/car/551266013.html
Im calling tommrow morning. I pretty much skimmed the whipcream coating of the description. Most of the 05's have the same everything.
Asking $22,700 but havnt stated the miles.

And Finnally this one seems like the best deal to me. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/553927805.html
Asking $20,800 w/ 27k miles. Im calling this one tommrow to see if I can work the price down to $19,500. If not im sure I can get it for $20,000

Opinions would be greatly appreciated from an owners point of view. Also thank you everyone! for the very warm welcome.

Mip, if you make an offer and they accept, tell the garage or persons invloved that you want to take the vehicle to a local Honda garage for a checkup prior to final purchase.
In Canada it cost me $ 100.00 on a used vehicle I was looking at. It was the best $ 100.00 I could have spent. I did not buy that vehicle due to the damage uncovered by the techs.

Good Luck..................Neil

Hey. I wanted to buy an s2000 ever since they came out, and i finally got mine a couple months ago, i just couldnt ever afford it before. I bought mine for about 20,500$ and it has 23,000 miles on it. silverstone with red/black interior... its awesome. just look around and dont rush anything... you will find an awesome deal sooner or later, because alot of them are bought or leased to older guys who barely drive them then after a couple years they are put up for sale with rediculous low mileage and a decent price...

Be wary of the mods. Could be low but HARD miles. Neil has good advice, have whatever you really like checked out. If the owner/dealer balks...WALK !!
Good luck.
