Cool INtake kit?

im new to this site and i have a 2006 s2k, and was wondering if saving up for the mugen air box is a good idea, i think it sells for about 1,400 dollars, while the intake that k&n makes is about 280. Is there a big difference in performance?

Just so you know, a full Intake / Headers / Exhaust swap will gain you at most 15 HP. And cost anywhere from $1500 to $7000+.

The only way to easily gain power in the S2k's is forced induction.

that is absolutely correct

If you plan to build the car to go FI, be careful with your choices of header test pipe and exhaust and you should be able to use the when you make the change to FI

Yeah save that 1400.00 for some nics wheels, coilovers, or to go towards a turbo. Don't blow on an air intake that's just going to look good and nothing else.

Yea, I bought a used K&N Intake for 150$ with 3000 miles on it, i did it cause it was cheap and i like the sound of it, i dont plan on doing forced induction, but the mugen air intake isnt worth it unless your going for the JDM appeal. im putting an emanage ultimate ecu on my car soon which will give me 20-30% more HP overall... thats about the only think im doing for big HP gains. i am focusing on styling and handling. no big body kits or anything but simple clean styling. front lip. a little lower stance, those kind of things.

Thumbs up

Dont get me wrong when I say this bc I like mugen parts, but they are way over priced. If your buyin it for the name or looks by all means save up and get it. K&N or AEM intakes do the same so the answer to your question is, NO. There is no performance difference between them. But you will be the only guy on the block that saved up and dropped $1400 on a peice of Carbon Fiber. that cost maybe $200 to make. Also i second the top 3 post ubove mine, very good advice.

Over at s2kca.com, a lot of folks like the Fujita F5 CAI. I'm happy with my K&N FIPK. Don't know if I saw any hp gains but it sure sounds cool when the vtec kicks in. A little better throttle response too.

Greetings Dynasty.....I love the avatar of the Stig. I want to run on the track with him.....He ain't got the stones!! Duckin' me , that's what he's doin........
He's mine on race day, and he knows it.
(sorry, got off course there)

My question, being the goof that I am with this kinda thing.....so I hope somebody's got the answer......IS--

Can these kind of horsepower gains be achieved in a Stewie, via a software change in the computer? Without altering the physical powerplant itself?
Even on the low end, it'd be a jump of 40+ hp.

Seems like a lotta ponies. How?

20-30% on an N/A car is not going to happen
the best you can hope for with the right combo of intake, header exhaust and fuel management is maybe 30 hp, and I don't think that will happen, the only way to get HP out of these car is FI

well, it can be, and i have the cars to prove it, they put out 240-250 at the wheels instead of 205 -210... dont believe me ask for dyno charts on the emanage at s2katlanta.com

fi will get you a good extra 100hp yes, but the emanage can get u 40-45... us down in the atlanta area have some of these cpus and have a guys come down from new hampshire to tune them, they only work on the 00-05 models. 06 models are havin some issues.

read what i wrote above, and its very reliable on the 00-05 cars, no problems yet... 06-07 they are figureing out some bugs, 08's not sure if someone has tried on that model yet...
