I'm in the SFV. I don't know how to do anything. I don't even know what a clutch is. But if you need a second set of hands, maybe I can help.
If so, PM me. |

Pressure Plate Removal / Resurfacing Question
I am planning on replacing my clutch. Is it absolutely necessary to resurface or replace the stock flywheel? I do not have an impact wrench, and therefore, I do not think I will be able to remove it. What's your verdict?

You won't know for sure until you get it apart. If it's discolored (kinda blue) from excessive heat, it should be resurfaced. If it's really bad you may see lines that look like cracks.

As far as flywheels go, Silver Shadow......if you're replacing the clutch assembly before it has failed, the flywheel would not usually need to be touched. Like DJJSR said, you won't know 'till you've removed the transmission and clutch, in order to determine if there's any real damage to the flywheel. A little grunge is normal. Heat cracks or a tempered surface (the blue tint look) will require a cut at a minimum. Replacement is occasionally necessary. If it's working normally now, you won't likely need to do anything more than replace the clutch. Just my humble opinion bro. jagg |

Thanks jagg and DJJSR for the response. If the fly wheel requires resurfacing, is it possible to remove it without an impact wrench? Can I bust out those mounting bolts using hand tools?
By the way, I have a year 2000 S2K with that annoying clutch buzz and this is the reason for the replacement. The clutch is operating normally at this time. |

Depends on how big your hands are Silver.......
I'm a firm believer in the breaker bar. jagg |

I agree with Jagg, a breaker bar may do it, but you'll have to find out how to keep the crankshaft from turning. Same thing for assembling (using a torque wrench).
