new guy taking the plunge!
hey everyone! I joined up to learn as much as I can about s2k's as I can, being a hardcore Lexus guy and owning an LS400, SC300, IS300, RX300 in the past 6 years...I've fallen in love with S2000's and want one as a new project car! Any suggestions??
Several of my friends have them, one 1 of which is modified..I've driven them several times..I hate the lack of torque but love the revs! And I've always wanted a drop top =) Thanks! |

Frankly I think the S has pretty good power down low "for a 4 banger" and daily putting around. Then there is the bonus at 6 grand when needed.
I wouldnt buy any car that I hate something about. But that's just me I guess. Good luck either way! |

I don't "hate" it...I've put thought on it and figure, with current gas prices that's actually a good thing =)
I'll be buying a semi-high mileage S..and doing bolt ons, rear diff, suspension, maybe even cam/spray/tune down the road..but this is all hypothetical. I want something fun that has a lot of potential. I'll be picking up a Supra TT after I buy the S as a daily. |

Best of luck!
One suggestion... and I'm sure others will chime in too: If you're looking for more power, you'd probably want to consider turbo or SC. As far as bolt-ons, there isn't much more "cheap" power to be had. The S is yielding nearly 2 HP/cubic inch. Granted, that fact won't win you any races, but my point is that she's already tuned pretty well. Anyway... something to think about. |

Be aware though, as far as potential goes. The S has already realized 85 or 90% of it's potential in stock trim. You can make it sound better, or at least louder, and you can supercharge/ turbo it for much more power. FI is quite expensive though. I'm thinking you have already researched this and are not afraid of throwing cash at it. I do think it's a great platform to do this though, but I will leave mine stock. I love the thing as is. |

I know it's vtech...maybe it's just a local thing, but a lot of the anti-honda guys call it "VTAK!" to make fun of the local ricers..
and as to everyone else. I've done a decent amount of research but obviously am no expert. Apparently there is a guy in Pennsylvania or something that tunes these cars and with a standalone ems he can pull 240WHP(not crank) with just a tune. I'll find out his name but he charges $900 for just a tune. you have to supply the rest. But IMO its worth it. I'll also do gears, get it good and loud, maybe cam set up and FI. But like I said that's all down the road, for a while it'll be stock till I get another daily =) Thanks for all the nice comments! |

If you could get a roughly 50 WHP bump with an EMS and a tune, that would certainly be worth it.
IMHO: Buyer Beware. Let us know what you find out. |
