Hard Decision. Please Help!

I currently own a 2008 350Z for 6 months & i'm looking to buy an 07 S2000 since i don't want to dish out more money. There're currently 2 offers.

1. New 2007 S2000 with 13 miles on it for $29800 OTD (Confirmed with the salesman)

2. Used (Honda Certified) 2007 S2000 with 6700 miles for $25999 before TTL

Option# 1 is a really good deal compare to a brand new 08 & Option# 2 is not a bad deal either plus i don't have to dish out more money than the new 07. What do you guys think? I'M GETTING THE CAR TODAY, PLEASE HELP!!!

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

You should consult with your wife first, if you're married. LOL

I don't understand. You say you don't want to dish out more money so does it mean the dealer will trade in your 2008 350Z for their 2007 S2000?

You should go for the new one. There always a chance that car has been abused.

Yeah, for such a small difference, I would say the same.

The new one has the OTD (out the door) price listed just under 30k, the used one is 26k plus tax, which tax would probably be about $1800, so the used one would cost you 28ish. so I would go with new.

I would go with the used one. It will give you the same benifits as the new one without the harsh depreciation off the lot. As soon as he drives off the lot in the new 07 it will be worth the used 07. I say skip initial steep "off the lot" depreciation and roll with the used car otherwise you are just giving money away.

Update guys!

Dealer can't even take my car for $22000 which is the minimum amount i'm willing to sell my Z. Salesman only came up with $21500 which is only $500 short so no deal on the new S2k. I guess i'll have to go for the used one.

I can't believe how fast the price drops for the Z

I say get the new one. Depreciation is figured off of the book price not the OTD price so it's initial depreciation isn't going to be that bad. $29.8K OTD is about $8K off the OTD list price. That's pretty much about the first year depreciation right there.

Yeah. Too bad that dealer can't give me just $500 for the trade in, otherwise i'll most likely go for the new one since i know the new 08 is about $34K to $35K.

Put everthing on hold......................sell your Z private and get the money for what its worth. Do your homework. With the tight economy there should be at least a couple of others to choose from.
Don't rush your hard earned money !!!!!

Good luck in your hunt! As far as I'm concerned, Honda Certified is as good as brand new.

The man tells it like it is. Never talk trade in with a dealer. He'll wheel and deal and give you a high price and tack the difference in the paperwork. If the cosmetics on the 2 cars is equal, the mileage is infinitesimal in the scheme of things. The difference will pay for a lot of gas.

Another word of advice, find financing outside the dealer before you go in, but let the dealer think you're are paying his high rate. If they think they are going to make money by selling the paper they may be more willing to deal. Don't go for the extras, sealer, upholstery protective, windshield etching etc. Big profit stuff.

Another consideration, by the time you sell your ride the weather will be cooler and convertibles get a lot cheaper then.

Good luck, life is about learning.

Thanks for the advice. The USED S2K didn't work for me simply because i've notice something is fishy about the car. It really made me feel like to spend the extra $$$ for the new one. Hopefully the dealer with the new S2K will call me in a couple of days.

Here's a list of things i noticed when i was looking at the Used one

1. Passenger side of the front grill is missing a screw so that side of the grill is loose.

2. There's a gap at the Passenger side rear bumper corner right under the tail light but the driver side is completely fine

3. There's a 3 inch scratch on the passenger side door next to the door handle & it's very noticable like someone keyed it

4. A tiny dent on the driver side rear quarter panel

5. Glove box in the center console is very loose. It rattles when i was test driving it.

6. Front bumper might be repainted because my friend saw some tiny dots on the front bumper which he believed to be dirt that got caught on the bumper when they repaint it.

I'm definately would be a new one & i couldn't believe how much smoother the transmission is compare to my Z. Definately the best 6 speed i've driven so far!!!

The other advantage of brand new is that the warenty starts from the day it is registered you get a full 3yrs . A used 2007 could of already been registered at least 12 months ago so you only have a maximun of 2yrs warrenty left from Honda.

For me I would wait and purchase new ( thats if you can afford it )

That changes the perspective. I was under the assumption they were both like new. The second S I looked at was flawless with less than 25K on the clock. A 2002 that cost almost half of a new one.

The last new car I bought was an 89 Civic and I can get them directly from Honda at dealer price. Still have the Civic and an Accord I got from a private party that has been flawless.

I agree, if you find problems they are all negotiating points. If it's not perfect but it's certified then the machanics are good but the cosmetics need work - cheaper for them than for you to fix, and since it's been on the lot for a while they may want to just fix them for you to close the deal.

Not going to ask how you got dealer price Phil, I probably don't want to know...

Great News Guys! I bought the new one today!!! I'll post some pics tomorrow. I ended up selling my car to carmax for $22500. It's a $1000 more than all the offers that i got from other places. I went to the Honda dealership as soon as i got the check from carmax. The S cost me $29900 OTD but with the carmax check of $22500 plus the extended warranty i bought for the Z that i'm going to cancel with worth $3000. I only had to pay $4500 extra for the new S. I love the torque from the 350Z but S2000 is just too much fun. It reminded me of the 04 Civic SI that i used to have with more Power & fun. I think i just like Honda cars after all.
