hellooooooo
Hey all!
Just registered and have been researching my next car project for some time now and have officially decided on the S2000. My name is steve and i'm 24 and work as a professional environmental consultant. I plan on picking up a low miles 04, 05, or 06 and building it up. It'll take about 4 months to save up the approx 10k in mods I have planned, so I'm thinking I won't purchase the car until then (faster to save up funds before I have additional car payments). My background in car and engine building are with dsms, I currently have a 97 eclipse which I bought way back in highschool and worked on when I was in college. Pretty much did everything do it. Engine, tranny, suspension, wheels/tires, brakes, full interior mods, body kit, etc. As soon as I get my S2000 though I'll be taking out the turbo from my eclipse and using it as a daily commuter and my S as a weekend/autocross track car. I've already done a good amount of research, and will definitely be calling on you guys for additional help now and then if I can't find what I need with the search feature. With any build I think it's good to wait a while anyway before committing to a certain upgrade path, so 4 months will be good for me. Excited! -Steve |

OC cali, sorry! Noticed you lived in jersey...
I am considering forced induction seriously, but am thinking for autocross whether it'd be a good idea to hold off for now and keep money in the wheel/suspension/aero mods and then go turbo if it looks like it'll help my lap times when I am more skilled. racing has been one of those hobbies of mine I couldn't pursue in school because of lack of funds, but now that I can do it I'm thinking the S2000 would be an excellent platform. Have no interest in the quarter mile. -Steve |

Ya quater mile for are car is stupid in my opinion... Glad to see you have your head on though, not to jump into it right away. Some people get the car gunning for more HP before they even know what it has, More power is always nice but getting a hold of what it has makes it that much more fun when you get some more.

Thanks! I totally agree. I am also not new to online car forums, as I frequent many. Decided to join because I got a good vibe from this group. I'm sure I'll have plenty of input on these forums once I get into the swing of things!

Welcome to the site.
Aero mods will do nothing for you at an autoX. Rear gears will help you much more.

You should check previous posts someday had an 04 for sale with a huge amount of money spent on upgrades and was pretty much giving them away with the asking price of the car

sorry didn't clarify, autocross and road course as well. i plan on making trips to willow springs every 1-2 months to get some quality seat time. my track buddies mentioned aero would help, but we never talked about gearing. i'm assuming rear gears would hurt my top end on the straights? sorry i may not be new to cars but am relatively new to racing.

Placentia! Or if you don't know where that's at (most people don't), just think Fullerton.
