Thumbs up New owner from Houston Pic included and a few questions :)

Hi guys, I'm the new owner of a 2001 S2000, I bought it from a very good friend of mine. The car has a carbon fiber hood, a body kit and runs great! it's a very different car for me I own a 77 Corvette Stingray with a V8 350 325HP and a mercedes Benz (slow but at I needed a car with a backseat lol) so the S2000 and it's 9000rpm /kick in at 6k is something new to me. I like it, it's a cool car and people always look at it twice as with the top down and body kit you can't really point what car it is if you are not familiar with it.
I got it for a great price but it needs a bit of TLC body wise.
The back bumper took a hit, the front bumper/body kit doesn't align perfectly the carbon hood needs to be re glossed, I also have 2 tares in the top but overall and mechanicaly the car is great. I need to change the stock rims. what size would you guys get? since the car is already very low and touches the ground evertime I get in and out of a driveway. what rim's size would be BIG but without changing too much the driving style or touching the body?
can carbon fiber hoods be reglossed? how much does it cost?
what's the averag cost of a paint job on a car like this? my vette was almost $7K I'm not doing that again..
thanks guys

First off, congrats on the new (to you) car.

I'm not trying to be mean here, but you would be best off ditching that ricey body kit if there's damage to it, and going back to stock bumpers. That would be the cheapest, and IMHO best way to go. A stock front bumper with a lip kit will fit seamlessly, look better, and give you a little more ground clearance. (and you should easily be able to find a cheap one on another forum already factory painted)

Also, you didn't mention how the car was lowered, springs, coilovers?

The general consensus here for people that put wheels on their S2K's is to go with 18's. They won't rub if you get the correct offsets, and tires are much cheaper than for 19's.

Again, welcome! There are a lot of really helpful people on here so I hope we can help you get your S2K back in top shape!

get 17s or 18s, but make sure they are in the correct offset, these cars run a very high offset

thanks guys! I actually really like the body kit that's on there right now, I ve seen a few and didn't like them at all but this one is ok by me. I have NO idea how the car is lowered or even if it is lowered or if it's just because The body kit is not aligned properly and rubs. Thanks for the tip. i would love 18s what's the offset thing about?
thanks again guys

Yes, I'm most definitely selling the Invidia. I stay in a quite neighbourhood and it's just too loud, it sure doesget the attention but I got my vette with full exhaust to make noise already
I'll let you know when but I'm definitely looking into something different and selling the one I have on now.

mdjice - Welcome to the site, a great group of people here with good advice. What are your plans for your stock wheels? I might be interested in 2 of them as long as they are in perfect condition. I did a bad thing last week and was showing off to a friend and oversteered it into the crub. No body damage, but I did a nice job on my two right side wheels. I am not in a rush to replace, if you are interested in selling PM me. Great looking car, you will surely enjoy it.

Chrome must be a generational thing. When I bought my 02, the previous owner had the stock rims chromed, and I love it. My ride is black (fastest color) and I like the look of a little chrome.

Welcome to the site. You might want to look into the Comptech exhaust as well.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

You can safely go with 18" wheels anything biggy looks funny IMO, When it comes to offset its somthing i knew almost nothing about before owning an s2000, Basically the cent of your rim if you were to draw a line down it is 0.. Now from where the face of the wheel from that spot determines the offset, Basically if the face was at 0 it would be dead center of the barrel of the rim, giving it a big lip. The s2000 does not have much clearance for wheels like that and needs high offset +50 and above for the most part is your safe bet, Some people run much lower than that but you have to do some modifications. It seems from the picture that the rear fenders have been pulled or some thing to possibly fit a more aggressive offset but that may just be how it looks in the picture. Now when it comes to a paint job they can be much less or much more, all depends on the body shop and how quality of a job you get, If you go with the same color it will clearly be much cheaper than a color change, Hope this helps and if im any what so ever wrong on the offset thing im sure someone will chime in
