Road & Track Article
Looking through the new R&T yesterday... It looks like they've joined in the rumor mill.
The upshot was that this was the (I know, I know) last year for the S2000. They didn't mention anything about the CR. They suggested a replacement roadster was in the works for '09 or '10. A more "civilized" car, but with only 200 HP. Possibly a stereo that goes to 41. (Ok, I made that part up). I'm not normally given to rumors, but if you can't trust the press, who can you trust? |

Yeah, I saw that as well. Not a bad idea sales-wise. I think the high strung nature of the car has turned some potential owners away. Of course on the flip side, that same high strung nature has brought some people TO the car.

I think the way to go would be to have different trim levels. That way you can get your civilized Honda sports car and still opt up for the real deal.

I definitely agree with you Blade. Why throw out the baby with the bath-water?
Just yesterday I was talking to someone at the gas station who wondered "why there just weren't that many S2ks on the road". I got to thinking about it, and I don't think I've EVER seen a woman driving one. I'm sure it happens... but I've never seen it. Honda could probably double sales by simply offering an automatic tranny and a "touring" suspension. |

I met a woman two weeks ago who autocrosses an S2000.
I think the reason there are not many S's are multiple. One, I just don't remember Honda marketing the car all that much. Mazda markets the crap out of Miata's and RX-8's and the sales numbers show for it. Two, the car is not exactly inexpensive. Three, the lack of an automatic will definitely keep many from buying it but getting an automatic to work with an 8 or 9,000 rpm motor is no trivial matter. But I think number one is the lack of marketing. Better mouse traps do not sell themselves no matter how good the mouse trap. |
