i have had my s2k for a year now(2006 model, bought in sept 2006), and i am tired of going to the dealer for the oil changes mostly because they keep forgetting to reset the oil life gauge. They have done it both times(7400mi), so, i have lost faith in them over something very simple( i.e. very sad day), I have only had 2 oil changes, and i need something to changeHere are my questions: 1) What do you guys think of synthetic vs. regular oil, I would like to go with royal purple, because it is what I went with in my last car, as well as that prolong crap(hey it really works). 2) Should i keep having the dealer do it their way or remove them from the situation totally and find my own mechanic( if so then can someone recommend one to me in chula vista, or san diego) 3) Does anyone know if that tornado fuel saver works? You guys know the little metal thing that is supposed to save you gas by creating a little compression/tornado in your air intake to pack more oxygen into the combustion. |

I am partial to Mobil 1 10W30. 2) Should i keep having the dealer do it their way or remove them from the situation totally and find my own mechanic( if so then can someone recommend one to me in chula vista, or san diego) Do your own. It's not that hard and you know its done right. 3) Does anyone know if that tornado fuel saver works? Don't waste your time and money. |

Okay, so you're wonderin' if you can do as good a job'a changin' Stewie's life-blood as the dealer? Well, if you know which way tightens n' loosens most open-n'-close valves, nuts n' bolts, if you can properly locate a pan to compensate for the initial spurt of the oil and the follow-the-lowest-point'a-the-pan to drip somewhere else, n' you can read a dipstick . . I'd hafta say yes, you can.
As for oil, everybody's got their own preferences, but keep in mind: although we do tend to get a wee bit carried away with Stewie's exclusivity . . it's still a @*#&in' Honda. N' as such it's a pretty reliable piece'a machinery that isn't gonna puke it's guts at the first sign of non-five-dollar-a-can oil. Any brand name oil with the manufacturer's suggested oil change schedule should see ya through. N' about that "Tornado" thing . . I got this bridge for sale, see? Whenever you start thinkin' in terms's stuff like the "Tornado", grab the keys, take Stewie in search'a some twisties (hopefully you were dressed at the start of this exercise). If you can be considerin' flim-flam come-ons like that, you n' Stewie're spendin' entirely too much time in the hangar. Be well. Java Whudduyadoon still sittin' there??????

I think it's a good idea to do the oil change ourselves. I have a couple of questions regarding to the oil change. My cars is at 11, 500 miles and an idiot light has not come on. According to the manual the oil change is due at 11,250. Should I have the oil changed anyway?
The second question is - If i change the oil myself, how do I reset the oil life gauge, so that the light comes on at the right time? Thanks, JB |

Consider that Mobil 1 comes as a factory fill for Porsche, Corvette, Bay M Vay etc. The manual should tell you how to reset the service light.

I like Mobil 1 non-synthetic. Changed regularly at every 3k miles. It goes further than just being able to tighten or loosen a nut when changing oil. To me, the biggest question is: do you feel comfortable getting under a car?
If you do, then invest in a good hydraulic jack and some stands, and never get under a car unless it's properly on stands. I don't think Stewie's approach angle goes for ramps. If this isn't in your comfort level, it's pretty easy to reset the light. I'd consider doing it after getting in the car after the oil change. Instructions are in the manual. Tornado fuel saver is garbage, do not buy. Everyone else gave the right reasons. To Jbeni96, I'd change the oil anyway. I'm a stickler for oil changes. |

Phil, Porsche n' others r' usin' Mobil 1 synthetic right oud'a the gate?
'Sounds like the rules r' changin'. (Or, more accurately: the rules changed n' as usual, I was otherwize occupied.) No kiddin' eh? Well 'at about shoots everything I thought I knew on the subject right in the kiester. Do they do a pre-break-in at the factory on those units y'think? Be well. Java

ok, i have done my research on this subject pritty extensivly and just recently. posted on s2ki.com (witch is international), from top scientists in the world that have the results for our spicific car back, #1 was AMS 10-30 synthetic, #2 was mobile1 10-30 synthetic, royal purple actully belive it or not did not get a good rating for our car altho it is a very good oil it isant for the s2, now i have royal purple in my car right now and i didnt find out all this info till after i did the oil change..... ive also found that the royal purple burns when in vtec alot faster then my previous oils have, so ive had to add some here and there. i wouldant recommend changeing to synthetic till at least 10000. and for the guy that needs to kno how to turrn the light off.....hold down the TRIP button, insert your key turn on ignition, keep the button held down for at least 10 sec and you should see it turn off.

oh and JBENI96, remember this, if you dont change your oil enough....it will always hurt you, if you change it to much it can never hurt you. if your not sure......do it anyways. thats a quote from one of my old instructors at automotive school who had his doctorate degree in automotive engineering and not to mention he's been around since the beganing of time.

I read an SAE paper on oil tests, about 25/30 yrs. ago which claimed Mobil 1at 20,000 miles was equal to other oils at 7500. Dunno about pre-break-in but tolerances are much closer these days. Course I'm a dinosaur and things change. Also heard some companies put Bars-leak in at the factory. |

I have used Amsoil 10W30 Full Synthetic since the second oil change at 14000 miles on my '04. It may cost a little more per quart but I call it cheap insurance for the way I drive mine like I hate it all the time. It gives me peace of mind that my engine and bearings are protected no matter how I punish them up to 10000 miles (my current change interval) with absoultely no ill effects. I am getting about 27.5 MPG too. My $0.02 YMMV

Talking oil is like talking politics or religion. The discussion goes on forever and everyone still has their own ideas about it. I figure the Honda engineers know more about this car than any of us, so if they recommended putting cowflop in the engine, I'd grab a shovel.

A DIY job for sure S2k. I've been changing my own oil in all manner of 2 and 4 wheeled vehicles for 40 or so years and none has been easier than the "S". Unlike most cars, you don't even get oil dripping down your arm when you unscrew the filter!

'Sorry Pab. If there ain't oil drippin' down yer arm n' all'a other liddle oil-changin' delights . . have you really changed your oil? ('S'okay though. I still keep tryin''a sneak up on the refrigerator light ta see if it really goes out.) Java
