noisy brakes

I realize that the S2000 is a sports car, which I love, but with that you give up some silence and comfort. Is it normal for a 2005 S2000 to have noisy brakes? It's not the screaching sound that you get when you need new brakes, but more of a grinding sound. I really appreciate your input.

How many miles on the car and the current set of pads? Grinding noise from front or rear? Is it felt in the pedal? OEM pads or aftermarket? Do you have stock wheels on the car? The only time I get noise is when I start the car for the first time and am backing out of my garage. Otherwise, no noise.

Vezna,

Thanks for your response. My car has 11,000 miles. I can feel the grinding on the pedal, and can also hear it. It has stock pads, but after market wheels. Is this normal?

Any chance that this goes away after a little use, as in the brakes wipin' the rust (caused by wet/damp weather) off the rotors? (Although I've never known that bein' so intense as to cause feed-back through the brake pedal)
Be well.

Do you take the car to the racetrack? 11k miles could be warped rotors. Are you running the correct wheel offset? Incorrect offset can lead to more wear on the wheel bearing, but 11k miles seems pretty low for that unless you're tracking the car a ton.

I would have the pads checked. The OEM pads have a wear indicator on them that will make a grinding sound when your pads are too low. Changing the pads will make the noise stop.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

But unless he's terribly hard on the brakes, 11k miles is very low. I got 85k miles out of my 2 sets of OEM pads which also included 4 track days.

Noisy Brakes

I really appreciate all the feedback. I don't take the car to the track, but I'm not the original owner, so I don't know the whole history of this vehicle.

I will have the pads checked.
