Probably not because of this sentence:
"It's said to be inspired by Honda's very first car, the spartan, tiny but spirited S800 roadster of the early 1960s."

That isn't true. There was an S500 and S600 before the S800. That shows the lack of research done for this article.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

I've read several articles about the proposed 2009 car and they all say pretty much the same thing. Honda wants to compete with the better selling Miata. They are going to cut the size, weight, horsepower and price.

Hope not, they should go lighter and a bigger engine with forced induction.

This just in from Honda!

"

I haven't heard anything about a "new" S2000. They only had pictures of the CR, and passed it off as the 2008 standard model, so I would be suspect bout their reporting. I'll nose around and see what I can find out.

I seriously hope this article's way off. There are good reasons why I chose the S2000 over the Miata, one of the biggest being a much better engine. If Honda mollified the S2000 to merely compete with the Miata, I would think it'd only make the choice between a new S or a new Miata all that much more difficult for roadster enthusiasts.

I can understand why Honda might want to move in that direction, but if they do, the new S2000 just won't be an S2000...

I do beleive that Honda peaked their sales of the s2000 in 2002/3 for the North American Market. Since then sales have been declining and the s2000 has gone a long time without any significant body re-styling. To a lot of people its well overdue. To me I'm just happy to have one.......................and I think its "shit hot".

But I can see it becoming a more porular model by changing towards the Miata.

Toyota went a similar route with the MR2. The previous version was a turbocharged coupe and the last version was a lightweight low power roadster. Even though it was mid-engined it was along the lines of a miata competitor. Lightweight chasis and small displacement motor. The MR2 did not sell well. I think the new S2000 should consider a larger displacement engine. Maybe use the existing V6 with DOHC or the 2.4 Turbo in the RDX.

Every once in a while this article ('r one very much like it) rears it's speculative, n' as Go n' Phil pointed out, misinformed head.
Aaay! I don't doubt that Ma Honda looks at the number'a Miataz sold n' there'z a liddle trickle'a drool n' smoke comin' oud'a 'er ears.
But the inaccuracy makes me think that this is jus' somebody'z perverted pastime.
Do you guys remember the "article" with the PhotoShopped "GT" that Stewie wuz bein' turned into?
It izz whuddidd izz. Ain't no amount'a lament on our part'z gonna mean nothin' if it's gonna happen.
Take two quick rides n' call me in'a mornin'.
Be well . . stiff upper lip n' all'att rot,

Well, it is time for honda to change it up abit (Every 4 years or so a new body style come out for some model or another) but I higly doubt that what they are talking about in this "Story" is what it is going to be. Honda know this car has a cult following behind it and to change it to something as shitty as that, would be just plain stupid.

I would agree with kwakr738 I think next year they should put the 2.4l turbo in it. Or come out with a new Prelud and for the Si model put the 2.4l Turbo in that! That way they can have something to compete with the Miata (Even though it wont have a drop top) and keep it cheep. The turbo is just going to waste in the RDX! A V6 however, would add to much weight.

a stock turboed or a 3.0 v6 s2000 would be nice but i'm more concerned about the dropping price (the base under thirty grand) and how it is going to hurt the re-sale market/value...

Oh i forgot to mention that the S2000 competes with the Boxer-S and maybe the G35 Coupe. $36K base vs $56K base (Boxer-S) that is a hell of alot cheaper if you ask me, and already on par if Honda wants it to be cheaper than its competetors. If honda really wants to compete with the Miata; as I stated before then they should bring back the Prelude Si and add the 2.4L Turbo to either it or the S2000.

I hate to hear this, but it should actually help increase the value of 2008 and earlier S2000's.
