It will vary but, an experience installer will certainly ease the pain if the jobs done right.

Okay, I have an 08, and the top is still in like-new condition. But my VIN does fall within the bulletin specs. Should I bring my car into the dealer and have them do this??? (Maybe I can do it myself). It should be done for free, right?

I noticed yesterday that this detail has been posted last week or so, sorry for the double guys.

This bulletin was probably created due to the number of complaints that Honda has received about these wear items.
I have a 2007 with no problems, but if your just out of warranty and about to pay $ 1500 for a new roof, you might be partially or fully covered with the knowledge of this bulletin.

I have an '04 with the same problem - not covered.
I wonder if we (s2k owners) can do something about it, since there are too many having this problem and not covered by this bulletin?

I have an '04 as well. It would be nice if it was covered.

Cool

I went to Honda of el Monte and they say I have to pay to get it inspected first. advisor said if Honda honors the bulletin then they will reimbursh the inspection fee. I've asked around and haven't gotten any good feedback on honda doing it without a hassle and not only that, one guy told me he's had his fixed twice because they messed up the first time and now they won't do it anymore even though it's still ripping... so i'm just holding off a little longer and see what's better.....tape my little rip or fix what might or might not be a bigger headache.

not yet.... still dreading the thought of a long painful fight to get it warranted... also I have an 06 and warranty just ran out in Jan... not sure if (like the small fine print at end of bulletin) a goodwill consideration will easily be aknowledged.
looking for time to do it is also not as easy since Honda will need the car a full week-day to inspect... ;/ not convient at all.

What i'm asking is can we (s2000.com forum members) write some kind of a letter to Honda USA? (there is no point in going to different dealers, they are not gonna do anything since bulletin does not cover '04 and other years).

Ok, i just called Honda USA, and they said that this issue needs to be resolved because it sounds like it is a defect (at least they admitted it).
And yes, we can write a letter to Honda, and i'm planning to do it. I need the list (AS MANY AS POSSIBLE) of owners, whose cars have this problem (described in the bulletin) but do not fall under years/vins listed in the bulletin. They asked for VIN, so if it's not to private - PM your VIN to me. If not - that's fine i guess, just your First and Last name, and year of you S2K.

thanks

Hope you guys get what yer lookin' for.

Question....Is it considered a "defect" if a convertible top wears out after 6yrs of use? Seems like a reasonable lifespan for a top, depending upon use 'n climate.

If I were a Honda Service Manager, I would consider a goodwill repair for someone who bought their S at my dealership of employment. Otherwise, I wouldn't be looking to sub out this repair for what warranty pays, and I would not want to own the repair if it was made by my staff.....( the average Honda tech ain't well versed in the replacment of convertible tops.
This work goes to the experts, 'n they don't work for Honda)

just playing Devil's Advocate, no ill will implied.
