The Gathering in the Garden State

August 24, 2007

Saturday Dinner at Kinchley's Tavern in Ramsey August 24th. An impromptu gathering of S2000/S2ki/S2kCA people at Kinchley's Tavern in Ramsey, NJ to celebrate damn fine pizza and damn fine cars!!!

Ever been to Kinchley's? Here's a short blurb from The Big Apple Dining Guide (a foodie blog):

Kinchley's is a favorite of mine and has been for nearly two decades. Their beer dough/thin-crust pizza is unlike any you've had elsewhere. True to form, I ordered the Fra Diavolo (spicy sauce) pie and others ordered a mix of plain pizzas, fried clams, spicy mussels and the like. The Fra Diavolo was a bit spicier than usual according to Danna - and I found the regular pie to be one of the better versions I've had. Delicious. The crust crunches, the sauce is flavorful with generous amounts of dried basil and oregano, and the cheese is "realer" than much of what you get in the city. They take great pride in their pizza and for good reason. Despite notoriously awful service, they take their commitment to their customers seriously.

Kinchley's was once asked to use their facility for an episode of the Soprano's. The owner reportedly turned down the offer, which would no doubt drive even more business their way, citing that the seven days they would need to shut the restaurant down to film would be unacceptable. You see, Kinchley's is NEVER closed. Not for nobody, never. And so to satisfy its legions of dedicated patrons, even on Christmas at midnight, Kinchley's will never be in an episode of the Soprano's but forever in my thoughts of great pizza, small business ownership loyalty and my previous years living in Northern NJ.

Friday night. Get together in the lobby of the Sheraton Crossroads in Mahwah. Travel to Ramsey. Eat lot's of pizza....yum!!

As to the Saturday drive: if it's up to me, yes.
But, I'll be satisfied if I can fit in swappin' stories n' wolfin' dowm some beer-crust pizza with everybody. Anythin' more'n'at's gravy.
Y'know . . for as many members that we have in the Tri-State, I'd'a thought there'd be a wee bit more response than this.
'Lookin' forward to seein' anyone that can make it.
Be well.

I think I messed up on who said we should drive down to see Java and have a cup or two. Realized it later in the day. Think it was Pablo actually but hey, it could have been the three of us yappin.

So how's everthin? Gettin some use outa the S? The wife and I took ours out today and finally tried out the Crown and Hammer Pub and Restaurant in Collinsville. The place was nice, food was good and the S was Grrrreat!

Hope'n t' make the tax drive next Sunday. Probably should bump that thread if there is one... How's it lookin for you?

No tax ride for me. Gonna be down charleston way. And all my spare time lately has been boat prep which is a rather large pain in the ass I will say.
But I'm driving the red car often to work.

Never owned a boat, other than, a small (personal size) sail boat an a canoe. Known many who have an none real happy bout maintenance. Seems many a head scratch as to weather it's worth it but it usually wins the coin toss. One guy maintained quite a large one yet mostly took out the dingy. Unhappy about the fuel, an that was bout five years ago. Wonder if he still ownes it?

Good luck with yer trip, enjoy yerself!
