Tail of the Dragon

Hi All

I had a biker friend who did The tail of the Dragon last year and had a blast. I noticed the Dragon web site that there are two events dedicated to Stewie, one in April the other in September.

Has anyone ever done one? Is one event better than the other? What was the experience like? I don't mind playin' in corners, but I have no desire to put Baby over a 200 foot cliff.

Is anyone from NE planning on going in '08?
Input appreciated.

Best regards
Pablo

Where'z Batguano when we need 'im?
Pab, if Bat doesn't check in on this thread soon, check out Bat's past posts. He's pretty much the sites rep on the Dragon n' his posts've got plenty'a info n' some good videos.
N' if you're headin' down . . . only as an observer mind you . . . maybe I might tag along.
Be well,

Hey Jav

Thanks for the input. I did snoop around the site before I posted the thread. I did find a link to a couple of videos. That's also where I read about the yellow S2 that went over the cliff. It didn't say what happened to the stewie, but the driver got off lucky with a broken arm.

If I decide to make the vist, it sure would be nice to have company......

I figure every 40 years'r so a person should do the Dragon, y'know?
Only problem is: how we gonna throw 2 Stewies in the bed'a my 'Camino for the ride down?
If I can swing the time, I'm in.

I feel the same way about Sturgis, not that I like Hogs mind you, me being a crotch rocket fan, but it would be an interesting experience.

And as for the fittin' the little fellers on your Camino, well how 'bout we put em crosswise on the bed. They might stick out a bit on the sides but I bet we would get some interesting looks on the way down to NC.

Sturgis, Daytona, San Genaro n' more recently, Times Square. Areas too thick with too many "fun" seekers n' air too full'a too much exhaled bad breath ta my way'a thinkin'.
Some things I'd rather read about than attend, but that's me.
Oh, n' sideways won't work Pab. 'Tried it. Stewie ain't as length-challanged'z one might think.
Maybe on their sides, like shoes in a shoe box?

Jav, I like it, I really do..The question is, wheels touching or take the tops down and have 'em topside to topside? More compact that way. And then we need copious amounts of tissue paper between 'em so's they don't scratch each other.

I'll take a pass on Times Square too, even living just 20 miles away.

Datona, well maybe........When I had the 2 wheeler I had a hankerin' to do Laconia and Americade too........so far have not. Keepin' em on my bucket list though. I ain't dead yet.....LMAO

Hey Batman

Thanks for the video, it's got my nipples hard and it's only January. (is it OK to say that here is this totally "G" rated site?

The road looks great. How are the people? I'm too old to hang with a bunch of drunken fools acting stupid. Present company excepted of course!

Best regards

If age was a problem, I wouldn't be going. I'm pushing 71 right now.
There are always dumb asses out there. Our crowd is very responsible. we don't tolerate lane crossers and other idiots. The crotch rockets are the biggest hazard. They seem to think they are bullet proof.

You mentioned the Rio that went off. he went off of hellbender at 44 seconds into my Hellbender vid. I don't know the reason he lost it but I suspect it was lack of experience and a shot of ego. Leave your ego at home. That's the safest approach.

Good luck.

I'm not bulletproof????
'Godda agree with you on that Bat. 'Too many capable units'a 2 n' 4 wheeled machinery bein' sold to those with the cash, but without the common-sense (is it still politically-acceptable to say common-sense?) ta
walk n' chew gum at the same time.
Sometimes it gets ta be a chore jus'ta stay ouda the path between them n' their final restin' place.

Pab, you may'a rode Jap, bu'cha sure sound like there'z some serious HD tendencies bouncin' aroun' in there.
Oh . . n' I thought I solved the Stewie transportation problem. Did'ja click on that picture in my last post?
Later,
Java

Java, I did see the pix of the fold-up SUV that you posted. Pretty cool. I think if we can harness the same technology for Stewie, she should fold up about the size of a wallet. It was a great post, thanks.

As for my HD tendencies, except for my 220 pounds, and accompanying fat gut I can't think of any......to what did you have reference?

Best Regards

Sorry Pab, didn't realize that you shed the bike. 'Thought'cha still hadditt.
But'cha godda admit . . not havin' ta godda suit-up 'r wear a helmet's pretty cool.
If only I'd thunk about doonitt while I still had hair.

If anyone here is planning to attend, I always post my suggestions before the event.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here are a few pointers that will help to keep you out of trouble and more importantly, prevent you from exploring the side of the mountain or river below.

I encourage any veterans of the dragon to add to this list.

1 STAY ON YOUR SIDE OF THE YELLOW LINE. LEFT OF CENTER KILLS!

2 MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOUR CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION BEFORE YOU GO.
TIRES,BRAKES,FLUIDS.

3 LEAVE YOUR EGO AT HOME. WE ARE THERE TO HAVE FUN. YOU NEED NOT TRY TO IMPRESS ANYONE. THAT WILL GET YOU OR ONE OF US HURT OR WORSE.

4 IF YOU ARE APPROACHED FROM THE REAR BY A FASTER DRIVER(CAR OR 2 WHEELER) FIND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OFF AND LET THEM BY.

5 ALWAYS ACKNOWLEDGE THE COURTESY OF OTHER DRIVERS WHO PULL OFF TO LET YOU PASS. A COUPLE OF TAPS ON THE HORN AND A WAVE ARE APPRECIATED.

6 WHEN APPROACHING THE OVERLOOK, ALWAYS REDUCE YOUR SPEED. THERE ARE PEOPLE CROSSING THE ROAD TO TAKE PICTURES OR CONVERSE AND VEHICLES PULLING BACK ON THE ROAD. IF YOU COME IN "HOT", THERE MAY NOT BE TIME TO REACT.

7 TO SAVE YOUR BRAKES,AFTER A RUN, DRIVE A MILE OF TWO TO LET THE CAR COOL DOWN. IN PARTICULAR, ALLOW THE BRAKES TO COOL BEFORE ENGAGING THE PARKING BRAKE.

8 SHOW RESPECT TO THE OTHERS ON THE DRAGON. WE HAVE A GOOD REPUTATION AS A GROUP AND WE DO NOT WANT THAT TARNISHED.

9 NEVER,NEVER CROSS THE YELLOW

Have fun and be safe.
