After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Well that just sucks!

Sorry for your loss man. I feel very fortunate to live in an apartment with a two car garage. I keep "Stewie" parked and under cover and inside all winter, but definately inside when I'm driving regularly.

Said it before and I will repeat myself due to the P.O.S. thieves out there:
Silent page alarm system, Sig Sauer P-229 .40 caliber, Valkyrie System (available late 2009)

A hard top might of defered the theives, but who knows...everybody should be carefull about buying used seats and extras from people who have never owned a s2000. The only deterant is to look out for each other. I'm gald you posted this problem so that we all can look out, and be aware.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Seat locks maybe? I know that'll be the first thing I get when I finally get my S2000.

Seat locks? Pffff hahahahahahahaha thats funny! I know 4 people with S2000's who had the seat locks, and the crooks simply brought along a carbide tipped, rechargeable drill, drilled out the locks, and stole the seats, and mangled the top. Fortunately, I live in South Jersey, and things like that haven't happened here. Ultimately, the closer you get to NYC, the closer you are to all the action, and crooks.
BTW, even if the seat locks worked, you're still going to have to replace the soft-top, no matter what (and its a HUGE pain in the A$$.)

I never said it would prevent thieves from stealing the seats. Seat locks are just there to make it a bit harder to steal. Nothing will stop thieves if they want something that bad. And if the seat locks do work, I would rather replace the top than replace the OEM seats. From what I hear, each seat is around $3k-4k, new, from Honda. But you can always get a pair of Bride or something for the price of one new S2000 seat.

What about car insurance you pay every month? What about deductibles? I would like to think that you can make a claim under your insurance, pay the deductible, and be on your way. Ultimately, if that's the case, its irrelevant how much the seats are or even the soft top for that matter; since insurance will cover anything over the deductible assuming the cars not declared totaled.. My .02 I could be wrong.. its happened before

Why do you think a S2000 can be considered "totaled" just for having their seats stolen? Although there may be other damages, the seats are what that is worth the most, being that they have to be assembled, piece by piece (I've done my research). But I do agree with you that prices for each item can be irrelevant but with other cars, not in the case of the S2000 though. All in all, nothing is theft-proof. We can deter it by installing alarms and stuff but we can't completely stop theft. Unless you're one of those guys that take matters into their own hands.

Well, I think an S2000 could be totaled having its seats stolen because they've got to rip the top off to get to them, PLUS, the damage thats caused getting the seats out. I would think, with a brand new soft top, plus, two brand new seats, plus whatever else is wrong inside, could definitely total the S2000; but it all comes down to how much damage versus what the actual cost of your car is. And yes, I agree that nothing is ever theft proof-- what are we supposed to do then? Just leave the doors unlocked, seats unbolted, with a sign that says "Doors are unlocked and seats are unbolted, please remove then with care, thanks!" It's almost worth it to keep your doors open versus having the theives destroy your entire soft top just to access the seats. Like you said, if the theif wants your car, or whatevers in your car bad enough, they will take it. As far as taking matters into my own hands, I check on my car a few times an evening from my bedroom window.. my cars parked about 10 feet from my front door. Thankfully, where I live, has a very low crime rate.

Wow, that sucks

I am lucky to have a garage and live in a fairly crime free area but things can be stolen everywhere. When I got insurance I was surprised at the high cost and they told me it was due to theft. As bad as it sounds, a long time ago I lived in Philadelphia Pa and my car (not a 2000) was broken in so many times that I did leave the doors unlocked. They would just break the windows and find out I kept nothing in there worth while. The car was not worth stealing though so as long as my windows didn't get broken, didn't really cost me anything. I do travel sometimes with the S2000 and have to park it outside, hopefully I will be lucky on those nights and have no problems. Anyway, sorry for your troubles.

No offense prune 787 but...
You are using common sense and hold a regard of decency that sociopath's do not possess or simply ignore. Most stolen S2000 seats end up in slammed Civics or Integras, some are sold on E-bay to support other thieving habits. This is why I believe in the philosophy below:

"If I work for it ... pay for it ... its mine ... if you try to take what is mine ... I will take your life ... It's a fair trade ... and you have been given fair warning" -- Dr. Werner Betz

I agree with you, it all depends on where you live.

Like s2kx2 said, if I ever catch anyone trying to steal what I worked hard for, I will take matters into my own hands.

I had two kids brake into my garage and try to steal one of my stroked race motors and a bunch of shit from my rhd s14. I was lucky enough to catch them in the act, chased one down the road took care of him a little to much and he ratted out the other kid, short story he woke up to his m3 with little fire issue. Cops got involved I was young thank god, but I never had an issue since then "knock on wood" word travels fast. Another kid on s2ki had his seats stolen down by the Pallisades mall and they ended up finding them. The funny thing is that they found them in a van that was in a police chase with one casuality. Karma anyone?

Recently here in Arizona there have been over 6 S2K's stolrn/broken into in the last 2 months. One of them had seat locks, so the kids just TORE UP the inside of the car because they were pissed. Seats were still in it, but the car was totalled because they carved/cut/destroyed every other thing on the car that they could...

IMHO, seat locks are a waste of money. Rent a garage if you live in an apartment, there's no other way to keep it safe.

OP: Sorry for your loss...

For what its worth, according to a Honda rep at our local dealership S2000 production ceased June 11th. Take extra steps to protect your cars guys and gals because as I see it, there will be a marked increase in thefts and damage to the cars that are harder to steal for the next few years at least.
A silent page alarm option and GPS tracking (no I do not mean Lojack!) There are newer smaller and more powerful systems that can even locate cars in buildings and shipping containers sending the location to your computer and cell phone (pending FCC approval). They are costly, but so is losing a vehicle that you truly enjoy and in the very short course of time WILL be IRREPLACABLE!

I live on Long island. In 18 month time I had 2 sets of seatrs stolen. I put seat locks on. So the 3rd time with the seat locks in they took the instrument cluster and all the dashboard panels. They left the aftermarket radio and amp.
The first time I had he hardtop on and alarm set, I don't know how they got in car damaged. I cant belive they did'nt take the hardtop. 3 times in 18 months. Car is now locked up tight in a garage

A buddy of mine from over on S2Ki (NY Metro) had his S vandalized in a whole new way recently - they went for his headlights and to do so peeled back his front fenders like a tin can. The photos were unbelievable, looked like his engine bay blew up or something.

Whoa that sucks man. I stay in Tampa, FL and have had some people try to break in my car. Luckily, I had a random urge to go look at my beautiful s2000, and I noticed some dude with a knife in hand looking around next to my car.

Just a few seconds later my dad has a shotgun to the dudes face... very close encounter. I garage my baby now =)

I have heard of this, there is some kind of B.S. body kit for Del Sols or Civics that uses S2000 Head and Tail Lights. Do you think any of these thieving piss-ants ever ask themselves if it was worth it when they finally get shot
