I'm sorry... but WTF???

A malfunction in the stability control system which allows air in the brake system (a hydraulic system into which one should NOT introduce air) is not a "problem with the brake pedal." If Honda's press release said the issue is with the brake pedal, then someone in Honda's employ should get a pink slip. Either that or the journalist reporting on the topic has his/her head up an orifice.

o no!

First, I must state that nearly all of the cars I have owned for the past 25 years have been hondas. But, I did buy a 2001 Odyssey new and it was the biggest ownership disaster I could imagine. It had a lemon transmission --- the torque converter had to be replaced 6 times in the first 100,000 miles. After the warranty expired i dumped it for a pilot that has a much beefier tranny to truck around the kids. It had terrible brakes too. I am not surprised with the recent recall since they have designed a lot of high expectations into these newer, heavier minivans.

Oh well, I have a 2000 S2000 now that I love!

Why-o-why did any engineer even think of fly by wire throttle pedals for mainstream passenger cars in the first place? This SCS air infiltration on the Honda's brakes if true is a big blow to Honda. I hope they go after vigorously and service the correct causation unlike Toyota seems to be doing so far. Acclaim and accolades from the press plus a smug sense of self superiority can subvert ones devotion to a quality output IF you believe the hype and forget all the hard efforts that brought you all the success you enjoy!

it's also a cool little town in the middle of nowhere Utah. Town is named for a nearby rock formation that looks like an upside down sombrero.

Ah, yes. I forgot about that. Indeed, a cool name for a town. [thumbs up sign here] I like those kinds of towns.

Big, I wouldn't object to fly-by-wire throttle if they were as direct and responsive as a simple cable. (The s2k is bad; the Fit worse.) Perhaps they will be soon.

The brake issue has to do with EBD, which I have on the Fit. I didn't think I would like EBD, but it's actually pretty cool.

The real car guys at Honda are always fighting the bean counters. Maybe Toyota will be a wake up call.

The drive-by-wire throttle is required for stability control (VSA) along with the abs system. VSA can brake a wheel or cut the gas to keep a car on it's intended path. I know....sounds like too much computer intervention.

You know when your computer just up and freezes for no apparent reason and then perhaps crashes? Maybe an intermittent slow down for a bit? For a desktop a restart or virus scan might be in order. But for a computer infused auto with interdependent digital and servo electric and feedback (Open and closed) controlled systems and subsystems it might manifest itself in a runaway throttle error. The deeper the reliance upon embedded computational code, the more likely you are to encounter the ghost in the machine. And at the worst possible time! Murphy's Law...a real muthaf**ker in practice!

And now time for the gratuitous sexist animation I like to post!

Yeah, that's the stuff! lol
