my quest for OEM replacement parts is finally over

took the car in last monday for axles... again. the rock auto axles had crapped all their grease out again and were making noise. i also had an issue with low voltage at idle and the dash lights flickering. per s2ki the rectifiers in the alternator were dying.

so i took the car in, my service advisor told me he'd try his best to convince my 3rd party warranty company to use OEM axles this time (fyi: this is my 4th trip to the dealership for axles) as i have 1yr and 12,000mi left on my warranty with them. the axles last about 10,000mi and i'd definitely be back before the end of the warranty for a 5th pair.

i got an email from him wednesday... they were going with rock auto reman axles again. my heart sank... oh well... at least i'm getting an OEM alternator, right?

so thursday evening i get the call.... the car is ready.

......and he was able to convince them to use honda axles.

FOCK YES!

i get there and see the receipt... $2200

so now i'm happy i've got hopefully 80,000+ miles of worry free axle use. if i need another set outside of the warranty period i'll head over to thedriveshaftshop and grab a set of level 0 axles for $500

Sometimes I really wonder about these warranty companies. You would think they would spring for quality parts so they don't keep on paying for labor as well as replacement parts.

others here have been witness to my story over the two years of ownership of my s.

my service advisor told me ahead of time that they were gonna try to cheap out and he was going to let them know it will end up costing them more in the end.

as absurd as all of this is, the funniest thing... one of the sets showed up at the dealership, they installed it and when they went to check everything out, only one wheel would spin....

the freaking spider gear inside the axle cup was MISSING! talk about quality control..
