Sunglasses

The low-horizon winter sun is killing me when driving my S2000 with the top down. The sun sits right over the windshield frame and blazes directly in my eyes. I don't wear sunglasses, except for a pair of Bolle glacier glasses that I use backpacking and hiking. Wife says those are unsuitable (ie, they're ugly) and that I absolutely should not wear them while driving in public.

So, what kind of glasses do you wear while driving your S2000? Does Bolle have anything that would protect my eyes, block the direct sunlight from any angle, and look 'cool'?

Ray Ban? Other?

I'd like to keep the price under $100.

Thanks for taking the time to read....

Hi Bob,
I got this nice stylish black Honda baseball cap from my Honda dealer and wear it when driving into the sun then store it under the front seat when not in use. That way you can wear any sunglasses you please and the hat is around 15 bucks.

Hi Bob;
'Couldn't agree with monk more. A baseball cap (with the brim forward as it was designed to be worn) gives you the benefit of a head-mounted sun-visor.
It lets you adjust the sunblock to slight, r' extreme degrees with an ability to place the edge of the brim at the most extreme edge of your visibility with just a very minor tilt of your head.
It also has the dual ability (for those of us with thinnin' top fur) to both keep the dome from burnin' n' havin' everybody lookin' over thinkin' of us as jus' another old, baldin' guy in a convertible.
A baseball cap, with instructions on it's most efficient use, should be standard equipment, and issued with all cars at time of purchase.
I'm a believer.
Be well.

I bought a pair of Oakley's right after I purchased the car that go with the a car. They are dark and I have never had a problem with the sun while I drive.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Generally I don't wear sunglasses that often. I have a pair of Rayban RB3249 that I wear on the occasions that I do need some.

Nod to the baseball cap. Only way you can keep the low sun in the winter months completely out of your face.

I'm a sunglass nut. I don't know why, but I own almost a dozen pairs. Same with hats. I almost always have a hat on when I'm going somewhere unless I'm going to be dressing up at all (and I even have a full head of hair).

As for glasses, right now I leave a pair of Electric EC/DC's in my glove box for driving. i had some Smith Hudsons that I used for awhile, but the frame was clear on the bottom, and it would refract light into my eyes if I was driving with the top down and didn't have a hat on.

Baseball caps fly off my head while driving. Maui Jim's are the way to go, a little more than $100 bucks but are woth it. Polarized sunglasses take away glare.

I've often thought that the taller drivers would have a problem with ballcaps stayin' on at speed. At 5' 9" I've had 'em threaten to lift off on a number of occasions, but by the proper application of my little "turtle" impression I've managed to save 'em every time. So far.
'Sides . . I also wear a ballcap as a public service: the glare of normal sunlight through my thinnin' topfur would blind on-comin' drivers. Sunglasses wouldn't help much with that.
Be well.

Absolutely concur with polarized lenses. Never been a hat guy...peanut head (6 3/4). Any hat just looks goofy on me (then again, maybe it's not the hat....?)

Polarized is definitely the way to go. I have a pair of rayban 3183 004/9A and recommend them highly; they wrap around your face kind of like oakleys but arent as loud, and they still do the job of protecting you from the wind and the sun.

As for hats flying off, I'm around 6'3" and have no problem unless it's at high speeds (70+) with a cross-wind.

Get you some Costa DelMar's I love mine. they are polarized and made for fishing, but work equally as well shooting sporting clays or driving. they make both glass and plastic lenses, i have glass and have zero distortion and they are exceptionally clear. and the best part is they have some pretty good styles.
