Weight Reduction, etc...

If i decide to buy the S2K i plan to take/replace parts before i start adding to it, (CF Hood/Trunk, Titanium cat-back) for weight reduction. Has anyone allready looked at this aspect of tuning? If so what have you done?

Tune, –noun tuned, tun-ing.
harmonious relationship; accord; agreement.
to bring into harmony or agreement.

Anyone go so far as to pull out some of the amenities? (Trunk Upholstry, Spare tire/tools, etc)

I skipped lunch.
Well, on a bike it used to make a difference.
Actually, when you consider the health benefits of gettin' in shape n' the cost of doin' so compared to the price of unobtanium parts . . loss of weight on the wheel (steerin') nut is probably the most cost effective route of travel.
(Of course, I'm speakin' of others that might be packin' extra pounds. Not myself. Of course)

Aaay Hell, do I detect a UKer? Bonnet???
The stock bonnet/hood and the stock hard hood/top might be near as light as the carbon fibre ones, but the fibre takes a pretty good hit without any evidence of the insult. While I do like stock, havin' any expanse of sweetly curved aluminum doesn't make me comfortable.
Be well.

The hood is aluminum, but CF is still a bit lighter, just not as much of a benefit as on a car with a steel hood. The trunk is steel so CF there would save some weight.

Lighter wheels and tires is the single best place to save weight since it is UNSPRUNG and more importantly ROTATING mass. I've heard of a few people losing the spare and tools and replacing with a can of fix-a-flat and 12V air compressor.

Lighter battery is good for a few pounds.

Taking the top off completely is good for at least 50lb.

Keep tank no more than 1/4 full all the time. (Gas is actually quite heavy ~800g/L so figure 3.2kg/gal).

Obviously, every one of these is a tradeoff for convenience or function. Even a lighter weight battery is a tradeoff since it won't dump as many amps and could be a problem starting the car if it is very cold.

Thanks for the replies everyone,

Aluminum hood... that kind of makes me weary... CF would definitely be more resilient to damage, Also I've seen a few tops made of CF, (with the top off, I'm assuming that the aeros of the car are significantly affected, so the weight trade off might be so/so) As for battery, I live in the desert, so the cold isn’t something I deal with all that often. Still need the passenger seat (The wife agreed to a two seater, but I seriously doubt I can talk her into a one seater, kind of destroys all functionality for little gain), but Lightweight Recaro replacements might be lighter (despite the fact stocks are Recaro made.)
Also fix a flat and the compressor would be allot lighter, still maintaining function, thanks Halo.

Does anyone know the weight of stock rims, hood, trunk, or exhaust? (I would be going to single exhaust, preferably bent aluminum, with titanium muffler, straight back out the middle)

Also, I would replace the windshield wiper reservoir for a smaller one, move the battery to the trunk (along with switching for smaller one, and removing mounting equipment in engine compartment), Remove trunk upholstery, and go with spray liner (like truck bed stuff) to prevent scratching, and still look decent.

Oddly enough, I do this partially because there are a few aesthetic modifications (I hang my head, when I mention neons...) that I've always loved and will include. These will unfortunately add weight, but hopefully ill be able to lose more than I add. (I've loved LEDS since I first put them in my modified NES, and only more so since I modded my PS2, so now it continues with my next toy) Anyways the subs going to add weight, and all the electronics wiring will to. I plan on putting a Lynxsys wireless router in it to communicate with the home computer for easy tuning. and use of the laptop real time while driving. Ill be able to tune my car, surf the net, and enjoy a cup of coffee from starbucks all at the same time... *Bliss*

Sheesh! I'm a fish out'a water since venturin' from my ol' double pumper Holleys. New-fangled, hi-tech, gizmos is whut they is!
All kiddin' aside, this new stuff is like so much magic to an ol' choke knob puller.
But on the weight loss tack, TireRack's got a set of (get this) correctly offset rims for Stewie. TR Motorsports F3s. Front weighs 15 lbs. Rear weighs 16.6 lbs. Unsprung weight chums. At least that ain't changed.
Lance, the weight loss that all the changes you're plannin' is gonna total what? Maybe 60-75 lbs? Do you really feel that that kind'a difference is gonna make a difference acceleratin' n' cornerin'?
Aaay, we all godda doo what we all godda doo, but is all your effort really gonna be worth it?
Be well.

Most of this is just for the fun of it. How many of you own your S2K because it’s practical? Excess is a way of life, (as vain as that sounds) and I want to make this car (provided that I decide on buying the S2K) entirely mine. I love electronics, the look of CF, and the thought of having something entirely unique. Using some basic knowledge of programming, I could potentially use a laptop to remotely start my car with the use of my cell phone and a 100 dollar remote starter kit wired to the laptop. Why? well, like those who put huge engines in their domestics in efforts to pop a wheelie, or Low riders who ride barely inches above the ground, or Euros that have all Italian leather, and Scissor doors, Its all to push it to some proverbial edge, no one needs it, but its impressive, and gives the person behind it an immense sense of satisfaction. Besides, I would like to make it a show car, not just to show off my mods, but to have an excuse to shine it up, go out, and hang out with hundreds of other enthusiasts. And of course, the track is fun too!

Besides, the weight to power ratio is what makes the S2K great, so I might as well elaborate on that thought. Every bit helps, and if I ever go really extreme into the performance mods the weight reduction is simple, and the first step, despite how minimal. Just like an intake... we all have one, but can any of us really brag about any performance jumps? And it doesn’t look good like CF, or stand up better than the OEM components. Plus I like taking things apart and modding them (my NES, PS2-and its controllers, VCR, TV, Alarm Keychain thing, and Atari will ascertain to this).
Hopefully you don’t mind me quoting you, Be Well

You know they make remote car starters now ones that even work a mile or more away . hehe Most people dont use them in cars with manual transmissions though.

Replacing the stock exhaust with something like the invidia n1 will drop about 40 pounds off
