Like a dog in the garage
I'm just wondering.... Why all these S2K's with super-low milage? I have such a hard time keeping mine in the garage for more than a day or two at a time, I can't understand why someone would have this car, keep in for a few years, put a few thou on it per year, then sell it. The fun of having it is in DRIVING IT!!! Am I missing the point? Is this a car to be garaged and sold in few years with low milage?
Let 'er run!!!! Low milage on a Stewie???? Like having your dog in the garage...what's the point? |

The point is we have a daily driver to put all those miles on. I drive 66 miles round trip each day to work and back and can do it on just over a gallon of fuel in the Insight. When the weather is bad, I don't have to worry about having to put the top up, hydroplanning on SO2's, hydrolock when I had a CAI, or having to wash it all the time I get home because it got dirty. EVERY time I drive the S it is special to me. It makes me smile. For me, anything I do everyday isn't special after awhile.
4 3/4 years of ownership= 24,800 miles. The S is a toy and I love it. P.S. When there are 4 inches of snow on the ground, I prefer to be in the 4WD truck, but that's just me.

I think it's the same situation as alodda bikers Tim. (Not all bikers, let's not go there alright?)
But, the vehicle in question's bought as a bit of a special toy for non-everyday use n' as soon as the weather gets iffy it gets put away with the pool inflatables. With bikes I found this in varyin' degrees n' it appears to be a similar situation with the ownership of Stewie in some instances. When I went out lookin' for mine I found the same situation n' was able to find one a year n' a half old with less than 1800 miles on it. Why? Dunno. Don' care. I jus' didn't have much of a problem dealin' with it. I'm with you. The only time that mine rests is when I'm out on the bike. And as I'm gettin' on in age, the bike isn't used all winter long anymore. So far Stewie's handled bad weather duty very well. 'Hell, sometimes I even put the top up. Be well. Java

I dont even want to park my Lancer at my work, if I owned an S2K id probibly be more anal about people denting it and end up parking FURTHER whenever i went to wal-mart... Sometimes you just take the daily driver to protect yur baby... but then again, i also say you should be proud of your road scars (when in reality im crying a little on the inside about all those damn dents)...

As a long-time appreciator of long, unblemished expanses of sensually curved fender metal, the other side of the coin is fully understood.
But, runnin' Stewie as a daily driver, scars n' all . . I've never found myself sayin' "@*#&! If only I was drivin' Stewie!" I wouldn't wanna miss one turn. N' with Stewie as a daily driver . . I don't. Be well. Java

Ok, I see where you're coming from, but here's my take on it:
Weather: Um, SOCAL. Yeah, I think we had some bad weather...back in February. Might have rained that day...not sure. EVERY day here is top-down weather! "...anything I do everyday isn't special after awhile.": In this car, familiarity breeds proficiency, not boredom! Don't drive it so it will stay "special"? C'mon...you're jerkin my gerkin!! Enjoyment for the buck: When it comes time to get rid of this car (and buy a newer Stewie maybe?), I can guarantee that I'm not going to wish I had driven it more. No, I don't drive it in the rain (partly because it doesn't rain here), and I DO walk farther to Wal-Mart because I DO park it with a few empty spaces on either side. Everyday driver?: No, not really. I do take it to work a few days per week, about 25 miles each way. But I'm putting many more miles on it than I thought I would. And having a blast doing it? Isn't that the point? Having fun here at the expense of some of you, but like you, I simply love being in that car and hope to drive it, and take care of it, for many years/miles to come! Life is good!! Tim |

As an aside, if I add the miles I have on the Insight (an '03 by the way so it is 1 1/2 years NEWER than the S) to the miles I have on the S, I would be at 113,100 miles after 4 1/2 years. How much could I get for it if I wanted to sell it tomorrow? How much would it be worth with the 24,800 miles I have on it now if I wanted to sell it? Just a thought. Now, I have no plans to sell it, but you mentioned people that sell their S with very few miles on them. Different strokes for different folks.

"Different strokes for different folks."
N' everybody's godda dance to their own priorities. No arguement there Go. 'Bottom line is we all parted with a major chunk'a hard-earned because we needed to spend time behind the wheel of our own Stewie. However we deal with the end result of that, we all share that common thread. So we're different, but not all so different. It's pourin' pretty good out. 'Top-o-meter's up. Be well. Java

Right on Tim; who cares about mileage if you cant enjoy it. The best feeling leaving a 30 hour shift at the hospital as a resident would be to get in the car, 'ignite' the engine, hear it roar, put the top down and drive bathing in the sun all the way home - rejuvination! life IS good

I'm With Tim and Pecetrn
The only reason I got my S is to Drive it like there is no Tomarrow. Kinda like those kids when they buy action figures but never take them out of the box. @_@ whats the point of a toy if you arn't ganna play with it! might as well just get a poster of it and stick it on the wall and dust it every now and then. |

Well I figure it depends where you drive every day. So I have to go from the north side of town to the south side (Austin, Texas). What means I'm going stop and go for about 20 miles, yeaaaahh and that is just no fun in the S2000 (well it is if you like to work on the car and replace clutch and other stuff...). So the old GMC pick up does just well for that.
In addition, I have no worries parking and if a yahoo cuts me off I can take the attitude "if ya wanna hit me fine, well see what that does to your ...(fill in blanks)". On the other hand when I get home and take the S out for a spin on the backroads.... just fun. So to me it is the comparison of, do I go out for a 4 course meal, cigars, drinks every night? If I would it would get "normal" after a while. Same with the S, getting home on a nice day to take it out, enjoy every turn, cruise open, driving around without having to be somewhere...... aaaahhhh that is the good life. I guess at the end of the day it depends on you perspective....and well I'm getting to old for getting cut of by every 22 year old (sorry no offence) because you don't take the bait at the traffic light.... |

Like marlins my S2K is not a daily driver so it in the garage most of the week. It is also depends on what ones is doing for a living. For me I just can't be driving my S2K everyday to work, it is just not practical. But I do enjoy and looking foward to the weekend or a day that would allow me to drive my S2K, even for a few hours! It also has to do with the connection that ones has with his/hers S2K. My was way way back when it was just a prototype and then finally first 500 copies world wide. Isn't that a special feeling to be one of first owner out of that 500? To me my S2K is the only S2K for me and there is no other. So, the drive is extra special to me every time, but it doesn't mean I don't drive it like there is no tomorrow. Shooh, I have to open my hood up when I get home frome a drive to help vent some of that heat out of the engine bay. I even drive it with the Yokohama race tires on. I do take it to the track often and occasionally race a few other cars on the road or goes as fast as my nerve would allow me (I used to own a CBR-900rr); another word, I would like to maxed out my S2K everytime I drive it. But then I certainly am not going to sell my S2K to any one as long as I shall live or even that I'm dead. So I am going to keep this baby as prestine as much as possible, like it just came out of a show room for as long as I can drive a stick

Hey gomarlins, theres no right or wrong. As long as you enjoy your ride. Basically thats all that matters. if the pain of high mileage is something insurmountable for you, thats ok. the imortant thing is that you take your car out there and enjoy it in your own way.

Nah. Not by a long shot Go. Priorities change. 'Fact'a life.
We're all enjoyin' 'em as we see fit. Considerin' that we, each, personally sprung the denaro for 'em, I think that's only fitting. N' the bottom line is that we're all enjoyin' 'em. An odd-ball in this company would be someone who jus' don' get it n' can't understand why we're all ridin' aroun' with those stupid smiles on our kissers. Be well. Java

I plan on driving mine 5k or less a year. I think the s2000 is an awesome car to drive but honestly I like driving my other car more. I guess I love driving a turbo awd car that sounds like a friggin septa buss when it spools haha. I also love driving in the ran cruising in second punching it when it finally spools breaking all 4 loose and kicking it out sideways oh ya good times

I guess you folks all have the S's for fun. I bought it cause it was a dream car and ever since then, I just drove it. daily grinder. but even as a daily grinder, here in East coast, can't get out when it snows. so I get less mileage even as a daily driver. most people drive it only on a nice day with the top down... or for you people in west, practically everyday...
I wanted to sell it over the summer, but couldn't cause people only want something with lower mileage and something more clean and "like new". now the resale value goes down, so I'll probably wait until the spring.. but when the weather becomes nice, I just can't resist the temptation to get on it again... the thought of selling the S2k is out the convertable.... Mine is a 02 and I just went pass 43K. which isn't bad at all... i think... ?? |

Aaay blks! Don't believe all that "you godda park it when it snows" crap. Don't get me wrong: if it really snows you do godda park it. But for light snow of one r' two inches with tires meant for that kind'a thing n' a respect for the edge bein' alot closer than it is when the traction's good, it's a blast.
Stewie jus' too much fun to be collectin' dust when the weather gets messy. I'm sure it ain't everybody's cuppa tea, but you should at least try it before you accept the "park it" condemnation n' put it in the shed with the lawn furniture. Whether r' not you have the top down is a matter of personal preference. Be well. Java

Well Pece, it sure's hell snows out here in Joisey, n' like the rain, we're blessed with the ability of the snow blowin' over the windshield n' into your wake above 45 miles per hour r' so.
Jus' be ready for a breatalyzer test at any point durin' the proceedin's. Be well. Java

In the garage?
I try to commute on my motorcycle, cause NO CAR to me is funner than a bike. When it rains, or I need to pick stuff up on the way home, I take the S. My commute is 100 miles a day, six days a week.
Hey Java- what kind of bike do you have? |
