Lightbulb Aiming the headlights on an AP2

I would prefer my lights, especially my high beams, to be aimed a little higher. I find that driving uphill or around corners they're aimed too low.

So, is it possible to aim them yourself? How?

Yes it is, and quite simple.

Park about 20' away from a wall/garage door/etc. and turn the headlights on. Mark the top of the low beam cut off with a piece of tape or something and then adjust the knob so that the beams go up about 1".

Now go out and drive on the road while your significant other comes at you from the front and see if you've gone too far. If need be adjust again.

There are some official instructions for how far away to park and how far up the wall the low beam cut off line should be, but that only gets you the factory setting. I made the misteak of adjusting mine too much on the intial go round and it took me 3 tries to get it right. Take it slow and drive a bit to see if it accomadates your needs and, definitely, make sure you are not blinding oncoming traffic.

Thanks, but either I'm blind or you have to take some parts off the car to access wherever the adjusters are. I just don't see where to physically aim the headlight units themselves. It's a 2006 which has different headlights than the first gens.

Ahhhh, mine's a 2002.

I would expect them to be adjusted the same tho since it is a very generic type of adjuster and the assemblies are so similar.

Let me go look and I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Dang! This was a tough one!!

It has been a while, but I would have sworn that I used a screwdriver to adjust a knob that aimed back towards the driver, BUT I couldn't find it anywhere!!

So, after consulting my manual, what a novel place to look, I found that there is are 2 holes by your light assembly. One is a great big almost square hole that is used by many aftermarket air intakes as a place for cold air and a small screwdriver sized hole just above it.

If you look in the big hole, and you will have to remove something on the driver's side to look in, you will see what appears to be an aluminum disk attached to the back of one of the headlight bulbs. This disk has a serrated edge to it. Although it doesn't look like it will fit you should take a #1 Phillips screwdriver (that's smaller than the normal size) and fit it between the disk and the housing you will find you can adjust the lights up and down.

It sounds confusing, but isn't as odd as it sounds once you try it.

I still say be cautious and make small adjustments and try it out to get the right height. You DEFINITELY want to have someone drive towards you to ensure you haven't gotten them so high that you blind oncoming drivers.
