'Nuff'ta make ya cringe.

I godda new one, well, for me anyhow: puttin' 'er away, top's properly up n' snapped in n' when I put the windows up I sometimes get this substantial "clack" (don'cha jus' love when they start makin' their noises to describe what's happenin'?) like the glass is makin' contact with somethin' that ain't all that forgivin'.
I'm obviously missin' it, 'cause I looked n' don't see nothin'.
Anybody run into anythin' like this?
N' no Dude. I can't jus' keep the top down all'a time.
Be well.

as hot as it is, maybe parts of the top are sticking together and the sound you hear is them coming apart. Find yourself a neighbor with good hearing and try putting the top up without the engine running. Someone else may be able to spot the source of the sound.

Mine does the same thing. I think it's the latch reseating itself a tad in the holddown on the windshield frame (or whatever it's called) when the window comes to it's full and upright position. Mine only does it on the passenger side. I thought the window was gonna blow the first time it did it. I was gonna put a small dab of grease on the tip of the latch hook and a little on the convex surface of the holddown (that faces to the rear). Haven't gotten around to it and I really don't want grease on those parts in case I rub into them. Might try it, and if the sound goes away, there you go. Then you can wipe it off and have piece of mind that you wont have to shield yourself from flying safety glass.
Hope this helps,
Jimbo

Thanks guys, much appreciated.
Doc's explanation of his situation is spot-on with mine.
Passenger side n' the sound fits that of the parts that you suspect. I'll check out the top alignment thingy n' see if it ain't got a secondary seat worn into it n' get back to you.
Another case'a misery loves company, but sometimes that company's input helps to solve problems.
Be well guys, n' thanks for playin'.

Okay, I think that you're onto somethin' Doc. I checked the alignment pin n' port on the passenger side n' they appeared fine.
But I did do a series of top n' window up n' downs n' found that a couple of times I got that loud "clack" when I go through my normal routine of securin' the driver's side top/windshield frame clamp first n' then the passenger side.
Reversin' the procedure n' securin' the passenger side first seemed to eliminate the problem on a number of trial runs.
Possibly jus' bein' a little more careful in snuggin' down the top with those clamps might also take care of the problem, but, for now I'll jus' secure the top startin' on the passenger side.
I think you're right: the passenger window goin' full up pushes a misaligned pin fully up to where it snaps ("clacks") into it's proper place.
Again, thanks guys. Very much appreciate the input.
Be well.
