Vermont's not too far from ya there H2O. A cool 1.6 million and it's yours. Just image the time and patience it would take to sort through all of that stuff. Whew! But you could build several hotrods that were absolutely true to the era.

Amen brutha......amen.
The place doesn't look like a business. I suspect it's one man's lifetime addiction.

Many years ago, when the TV show "The Addams Family" went off the air, "Thing" became unemployed. He knew he would give his right arm to stay in show business but was unable to find steady work as an actor. Having no head for financial matters, he soon became destitute.
He went from one meaningless job to another and although he had some limited success as a handyman, he was not able to get back on his feet. Unable to afford the 7 digit real estate of California any longer, he made a snap decision, waved goodbye to Hollywood and thumbed his way back east. He knew he had to knuckle down and find something or he would never be able to realize his dream of retiring under the palm trees of the Finger Lakes.(ok, that was a stretch) Never being able to point in the same direction for long, he wandered aimlessly. Then one day while lying on the shiftknob of an old Terraplane resting in a junkyard, he realized his passion for old cars and manual labor. The owner of the junkyard gave him a job pulling wristpins and helping customers strip parts from those hard to reach places. He's been giving them a hand ever since. Just a sidenote - Thing never married. He didn't like being attached. From that junkyard in Vermont.......... ![]()

Maybe Don,
I thought he was more like The Hand That Rocks The Cradle...... You can tell that he's having trouble getting a foothold on getting a leg up in the world. "Ya see, what we have here, is a failurrrr ta communicate." Did I mention I like big Fords 'n big Guns? jagg |

Let's all give DJJSR a big hand.
I'm just glad my daughter won't see any of this though. See doesn't have such a finely honed sense of humor. Something like this-- I'm laughing my butt off and she rolls her eyes and says "No, Daddy". |

I forgot to mention two of Thing's other notable but unsuccessful career moves...........
Trying to regain a grip on reality and being a veteran, he thought he'd try his hand at being a mercenary. Apparently being detached from the Army for so long he couldn't quite grasp the concept and he was fired. In a stroke of luck, he was immediately offered a job in films. Turns out they were x-rated and with his carpel tunnel problems he was again fired and left empty handed.

I heard that Thing finally was forced to work the street......
His reputation grew for being too liberal with smackin' the ladies who shorted him, down, with his Giant Pimp Hand. how'd I let myself get sucked into this? jagg Last edited by jagg : 04-11-2008 at 09:45 AM. |

True trivia.........Thing was the hand of Ted Cassidy, the guy that played Lurch. At 6'9" tall, he must have had big hands. He almost always used his right hand, but once in a while would use his left just to see if anyone would notice. If Lurch was in the same scene with Thing, a stagehand would sub as Thing.
Just more useless information to clutter up your brain.

Thank you Thing.
'Not nice ta make ol' fellerz laugh this hard before they've had their coffee . . . though, I should'a know'd better n' hadd'a cup with me when I sat down. 'Little known factoid, Don, Thing wuz actually separated from the show when it wuz discovered that somebody had five-finger-discounted one'a the famous lace-sleeved-gloves. Thing protested his innocence of the underhanded deed, but, as I understand it, some rather racy, off-handed pictures of 'im were discovered n' once that happened . . he didn't have a leg ta stand on. You guyz'r'z warped'z . . . wall . . maybe that'z why I feel so'da'home. N' thanks Swing. Mama Java n' li'l Missy Java 'r alwayz lookin' back here when I'm crackin' up, n' jus' shakin' 'eir heads. Thanks Don.

Found this at the Rose Bowl
Went to the Rose Bowl Flea Mkt. Sunday to shoot some pictures for an article. Must have been over 100 at the bowl. We were tooling down the freeway when a car starts honking. My wife turned around to see who it was. Then she says, "what does it mean when some one sticks his thumb up?" She never heard the expression thumbs up. Two old codgers in a shiny yaller roadster do draw attention.
Found this at the meet. Remember the indy turbo? ![]()

Can you say Andy Granatelli?
Phil, if I'm rememberin' this right, I jus' recently read that the original was redone (albeit with a more conventional mill) for it's new owner by a shop in Joisey. Oh, nice score Phil. 'Gonna build it, pass it on 'r jus' collect it as-is?

Great find, Phil. That model must be of a different turbine car than the one I remember. I never knew they put a turbine in a Lotus. Obviously much different than this one..........

The original. Studebaker (I love it . wuz that the "sidewinder"?) n' it wuz jus' 'a'fore the Lotus versions.
N' why'm I tellin' you this? How does he doo that? (Keep comin' up with these flickz whut I ain't seen 'a'fore.) I love this place! Thanks Phil n' Don . . say . . ain'choo guys the Everly Brotherz? Don, 'r all these flicks that you keep comin' up with in your own private library 'r are you pluckin'em from the web? I hesitate to say this, 'cause'a the probable resultz . . but if I said Haystacks Calhoun in fishnets, why'izz'itt that within 20 secondz you'll have it posted, n' like Alfred Hitchcock, probably have you in the flick somewhere? To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure about the lotus chassis. It was a few eons ago. I'll investigate. One thing though, the turbine never finished but it was interesting. Those were the days when open wheel racing was more innovative and interesting. I don't care about equal racing, I want to see ideas at work.

I should look it up (but why doo that when there'z an opportunity to be wrong, right?) but didn't Andretti win in one for ol' Andy?
If I'm not mistaken aboudditt, Andy ran up n' kissed ol' Mario instead'a the trophy girl doon'itt. But the turbinez'd alwayz get real, real close before somethin' goin' kerflooey. 'Leastwize, 'att'z how I remember it. 'Spect ta be at least a li'l corrected. Java
