I love the differences and I do get lots of chuckles, it is a fun group for sure. --------Ah, Mine'z silver with a black interior, and talk about being different I have not had the roof down yet, (hubby has), I can't wait, every day is one day closer to spring. In olden times I had to have it at least 68 degrees before putting the top down, but I don't think I can wait that long, and "Stewie" has a great heater.
Have a great day.--------------J |

I grew up hearing lost of 'classic rock' from my dad (Creedence Clearwater Revival and Steve Miller Band come to mind), and a slurry of Celtic folk, Native American, and zydeco (look up Queen Ida http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YP1SU9VW_yo) from my mom. In truth I enjoy them all, but I'm also younger so modern media pounded 80's and 90's music into my young impressionable mind so much of my library is dancey techno, alternative rock, etc even some J-pop |

JJ and KT,
I adore fiddle music, and KT I really liked that Queen Ida on youtube. Classic Rock is great but I was talking about Classical Music not rock. Of course my all time favorite music is bagpipes!!!!!!!! So this summer if you see a blonde in a S2K blasting bagpipes it will be me.--------J |

I have a theory that what ever you listened to at puberty is the music that was the best. I spent many years in the record industry. At that time most of the singles were sold to 13 year old girls. There was a lot of good music out there. Ella, Brubeck, The Duke, The count, Stan Kenton and lots more. I listen to those, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis. Or it might be Mozart, Beethoven or some other dead guy. I have hundreds of pieces of vynl , some of which I'm converting to CD's. Course I got them free over the years.
If you want to broaden your horizons (musically speaking) rent the movie Amadeus. One of the all time great movies. Just open up your head and let the fresh air in. What ever you enjoy listening to is good music. It's all valid if it works for you.

Yes Java, they are crazy, but for some reason I really like how 'zippy' they are. Puts a smile on my face every time. But they are definitly too much for every day listening, lol.

I have not heard of Dropkick Murphy's but I will look for them. MacTalla Mor is a really great rock bagpipe band, they are a group from CT and they are just fab.
Phil, a very interesting theory about what you listen too at puberty is what you like. That is somewhat true for me, with a brother in the British Army in a Pipeband, being a highland dancer taught by the youngest pipe Major in the British Army during WW2, a mother who was Irish, and loved Irish music there was alway fiddles and pipe band music on in my house. I was older when I started to like classical. Sound Man, I always thought that I would like to play, but I have a theory about that too and that is that God makes people who play but also people that can appreciate the music and the player, so take heart you may have been made to be an appreciator, and also you are young enough to learn to play an instrument--------J |

If you listen to bluegrass you can hear the influence of the old country. Fiddle and a bow and away we go! I played clarinet, sax and oboe back in the stone age. Must say, this is an interesting group. But then stewie drivers are a little different. .

Very interesting theory... When I was, ahem, blossoming...... I was listening to all the vinyl I could get my hands on from up in the attic. Mostly the Stones, Beatles, Stevie Wonder... Pretty much any 60's and 70's album you can think of. Honestly even now I will listen to pretty much anything... (no country) But I still LOVE that music and always will, and when I'm doing housework it's still what I prefer to listen to... Nothing like dancing around to Stevie with a mop in one hand... oh wait, I've never done that...

'Ain't a big Country-Western fan, but there're jus' time'z in an ol' pick-up when nothin' else seems quat raht don'cha'know.
N' Phil, ain't no way, no how that you're gonna convince me that Buddy n' most everybody else in musicdom didn't listen when Patsy (Cline) did a little'a that "Walkin' the Dog" n' just about anything else she put her chords to. Some may've shut a door 'r two n' maybe turned the volume down jus'a bit . . but they listened n' enjoyed jus' like the rest'uv us. There's an "Oirish" bunch call'emselves The Chieftains that can sure please the hell oud'a my ears. N', when ya come right down tooitt, 'at's wherein lies the ruts'a country: the old English n' Irish balladeers jus' continuin' on continuin' on. N' then there's opera. Well, put this in yer diaries 'cause it ain't everyday that you'll find a guinea not fond'a opera. 'Jus' ain't natural folks makin' those kind'a noises . . y'know? Leastwize, not with out someone inflictin' severe bodily harm on some'a their more favored body parts. But I'll be the first to admit that it's likely, as a wee guinealing, I wuz dropped on my musical ear. Muzically I'm all confuzeley. But life'z jus' full'a surprises . . ain't it? Be well, Java

Opera? Oh, yeah, that reminds me of another driving favorite, Karmina Burana. Music shop guy cracked up when I got it but you've heard it in Apocolypse Now when the choppers were, uh, clearing the beach... Awesome twisties tunes. Trust me Java, ain't natural noises but the emotion says "faster!".

'Bout 24 posts back on this thread Scoot. Flight'a the Valkyries, which, if memory serves me, wuz what DooVal n' 'izz First Air Cav minions were enjoyin' at that particular point in filmdom. Ain't sure jus' who wuz dooin' the bella'in' in that particular performance though.
So, I guess there actually is opera that I like. My ancestors're probably all sighin' sigh'z'a relief at that realization. Java

How many ways can I flub one message?
Karmina is the Palace we love to visit in Mexico, in Manzanillo, all inclusive. Carmina Burana is the cantata by Orff that you also know, also opera but not Die Valkyries that they flew to. This one is just as bitchin' to drive to and I bought it at the same time (duh rock dude got confused). However, you've heard this one in Excalibur, I think, among others... Oh, and the nazis liked this one too, but thankfully phil pointed out the fat lady sang on that one. Dang, lotta rounds I gotta buy for this one, huh? |
