Bad Dealer Experience

I don't get how they couldn't have noticed this.

Heres my rant:
I started having really bad idle problems where the car wasn't even drivable. I changed the spark plugs and saw that my ignition coil to cylinder 2 was literally burnt up. I read up about a recall on my spark plugs causing misfires and coming loose so I threw the stock plugs back on and called the local dealership. I told them I believed I had some recalls and I did. I brought the s2k in and told them about the idle and that I thought the ignition coil was fried. They told me they'd take a look into it (about a week ago).

I go in today to pick up my car because they told me everything is working fine. I asked the guy if the tech checked the ohmage on the ignition coil and he told me that the tech didn't because he didn't feel it was necessary (even I could tell the coil was badly burnt up). He told me my car is running perfect. I say "Okay" knowing I'll be back soon. Some elder guy drives my car up to me. I could hear the engine backfire. I pulled into a parking spot in view of the guy I just talked to. Let the car warm up and it was running okay. I start to drive off of the lot and low and behold, I threw another CEL and the idle drops to about 300rpm.

I go in and talk to the same guy without even leaving the parking lot. He said that I'll have wait longer for the tech to look at it again. Im just thinking that I can't trust this tech since he didn't notice something so obvious and didn't check into it. I told the guy that the rev limiter also was kicking in at 3k like it was when I brought it in. The guy who I talked to also was asking me if I had the clutch in when the rev limiter kicked in. He told me that my car wont let you go past 3k with the clutch in. I almost called him an idiot. I asked him if he was talking about the temperature rev limiter and he said no, my car can't go past 3k when not moving. What an idiot.

Anyone else have bad experiences like this?

Any ideas? This is really ticking me off. They've had my car for over a week and I even told them what was wrong with it and they didn't even look into it.

HAHA, what a moron. They'll say anything to get you off their back.

As for the CEL, I recommend you go to AUTOZone and have them read your CEL code. They do it for free!

I've already got it read before. It was cyl 1 and 2 misfire. This is because 1 and 2 run off of each other and 3 and 4 run off of each other. It'll run okay until it warms up. Then it just is crap. I know for a fact it is the ignition coil.

Was it a Honda dealer or an independent ... need more information?

if it was a Honda dealer, which one? If they are blowing you off contact Honda America and level a formal complaint. I have found that many Honda dealers seem reluctant to delve into doing any recall work as it holds up a Tech who could be working on a larger more profitable service order. Good Luck.

It was an actual Honda dealer. It was Superior Honda of Omaha (in Nebraska). I really want to talk to corporate at the moment, but I think I might wait until I get my car back. If they're sketchy from the getgo, they'll be even more sketchy if they found out you complained.

I is true about service department and warranty work, they just dont like to do it. Isnt very profitable. Alot of times they hire inexperienced Tech's and service managers. Each dealership is different. Your best bet would be to contact Honda directly, or the owner of the dealership. That will bring the heat down on them to do their job. Im a salesman and we hate our service department. Always grouchy and alot of times moronic.

I'm sorry to hear about this. I hate dealership that can't to their job correctly.

1st off, if you have a misfire code they should 1st check for the open recall on the spark plugs. I can check that if you PM me your VIN. If that has been done, then they need to swap coils 1 and 2 for 3 and 4 and see if the misfire follows the coils when they swap. If so replace the coils. If not, you will need to proceed further. I can give you the info you need to check everything step by step. Let's start here.

If you need further assistance, call 800.999.1009 for Honda Customer Relations and tell them about what happened at that dealership. They will open a case and call the service manager and make them do things right.

Let me know if I can help.

*EDIT* Sorry, just saw the last two posts. Glad you got things resolved.

Glad it worked out Dis, but in my experience bad Honda service is very unusual, even for warranty work (well, mostly since that's about all I've ever needed). Contacting corporate is the right thing, it's the only way to weed out those guys that shouldn't be at Honda!
