Guess what, I'm 60 years old. I've lived long enough to give you youngsters some advice. Be careful. Stuff happens so fast and then it can take years to get over it if you can. These little cars a fun to own but when I read about some of the stuff that you are doing with them it makes me cringe. I can summarize this by saying: take your mothers advice. Most of the time she is right. If she tells you to take your umbrella or to drive carefully just do it. When you reach my age you will understand. If you don't listen you might not make it. You can have fun and still be safe. Do the racin on the track. Think with your brains. Don't be caught showin off. John H

I'm 22 and am making payments on my 05 Rio after a huge downpayment from selling all my other project cars and parts laying in my garage. I sold a 93 MX-6, 95 S-14, a 94 MX-6 (with tons of mods) and traded in the gas guzzler truck for it. I've been working since I was 12. (family owned business)

Im 19 and have owned my car for a couple of months, I am paying everything my self, and its breaking my balls. Well actually paying for a GSR and a S2000 is breaking my balls.
My parents helped me out with my first car that i bought, but now Im on my own. I like it that way, teaches you about money management, and what do when things dont go your way. |

When I was 17 I had to buy my own car. It happened to be a 10 year old '69 Plymouth Road Runner. Sure wish I had it back now!!! It is alot different than an S2000, but fun none the less!!!! Funny thing it was red with a black top just like our S2000.

I guess you can say I'm old as dirt but I keep on driving with gusto.
Tail of the Dragon is a passion with me. I think my long experience in sports cars helps me negotiate those turns at speed. I'll be 70 in July. My wife and I are going to Wake the Dragon in April. ![]() |

Young Owners
I know of no good reason why we all cannot 'Relate". The common factor, of course, is our love of the s2k. I'm curious, in what way can we "older" owners not relate to you? Music? Income? Driving fast? or what?

'Addict, he's probably referrin' to the fact that the young bucks usually godda different view of things than the older guys do. Their view'a things is usually the back end of an older guys Stewie.
(Instigator? Moi? Mais non, mon ami) N', yes. For the record: I am expectin' static over that comment. Hell! I would! Be well. Java

I read a few of the posts, I think its great that the younger crowd gets to enjoy a better state of being. When I was growing up, we didnt have enough money for many things, better believe my kids will have much more than I did. I was made to pull myself up, get my stuff together and grab hold of the American dream most black kids hear about but dont see too often. My kids will be well balanced, as in no 30k plus sports car in high school, but rest assured they will have a nice and reliable brand new car off whatever sensible lot they desire, whether it be a Honda Civic, Accord, a Toyota Camry, or whatever. I dont want to pamper my children, but I want to provide a little better than I had growing up. And for the guy that talked about military, man, been there done that. Its so sad that other kids feel this way, but when I was growing up I either had the military in my future or probably death. Either future was not ideal, but I chose the military. I went into the Marine Corps, enlisted at 17 years old, did a tour while learning IT and worked on getting my degree, got out at 22 and started my civilian career after college at 23, and now at 24 i'm into my second job, now a Network Administrator for a large nationwide corporation, actually on a business trip as we speak installing a new network for a new location. I make well over 100k annually and I was able to buy a car I've wanted since I seen them in 00. I bought my first new car at 23 years old, an 06 Mitsubishi Eclipse. My wife on the other hand has only driven new cars, and has traded up every 2 to 3 years lol. I want my kids to have the life she had, and not have to struggle through like I did. I did alright, but even though I'm young, times are differet and they'll be different when my kids are coming up. I want to give them every advantage they can get, a vehicle, at least for most guys is more than just to and from. Its like our identity, our being and our pride. Its very important. Anyway, I just wanted to share my story, you can be anything you want, but the world certainly isnt going to give it to you. Thats your parents jobs...

Semper fi Sil, Semper fi.
If I'm understanding you to say that it's the job of the parents to provide essentials, we're in agreement. But if you're saying that it's up to us to provide "Image" cars to suit our kid's "identities" I've got to strongly disagree. Allowing someone to work and earn for themselves, something unessential that they really want, will teach them more about pride in ownership and responsibility than a ton of ineffective lectures on the subject. The worth of a thing is lost on one who has not earned it. Be well. Java

"Now, obviously there has to be a balance", 'bout said it all Sil. I suspected we weren't comin' from different places.
N' as for the "Java" . . that's strictly the ol' cuppa Joe. 'Total Neanderthal when it comes to 'peutas. Only jus' recently found out that Java was anythin' more than a cuppa r' an island. Who'd'a thunk it? Be well. Java
