Has anyone else done this?
I was having the oil changed in the Accord at Honda and went across the street to look at the car I REALLY want---- a Cayman S. They have a used one at Boise Porsche that I like, but of course it is out of my price range. I refuse to get rid of the S for another car that actually has less HP than I already have. Besides, I just ran a Cayman S down at Miller Motorsports park that was stripped and changed into a track car, but I digress.
After looking at the used one outside that I like, I walked into the dealership and looked at what they have on the showroom floor. The Special Edition Cayman S is still there. This dealership is strange in the fact that there are no salesman in the building, they are next door at Mercedes and come over to Porsche when they see a customer. Well either they didn't see me, or remember me as the guy that frequently comes by and looks. but never purchases. Anyway, to make a short story long, I sat in the Special Edition. I adjusted this and that and found a position I liked. I then got out and sat in a 911 C4S. That REALLY fit me well, it is REALLY out of my price range. I then went back to the SE. I actually sat in it for over 30 minutes reading a magazine and was never bothered. I didn't want to get out. Please tell me someone else has done something like this so I do not feel like such a weirdo.

Of course we have Go, but with me it wuz a Delage.
'Godd'a place whut floorz restored "collectablez". Before the Delage (r' wuzz'itt a Delahaye?) there wuz a drop-windshield 'Healey that stole my heart. 'Fore that it wuz a James Bond (Puh-leeze! The real James Bond, not the one who hadda be taught to drive stick-shift so he could drive in the movie) Aston'n' before that the cutest li'l Lotus that you ever did see. I like to look at the new stuff, but this ol' dog'z findin' the new stuff like a hot new color: nice for rhe moment, but no stayin' power. So I run my fingers over the long, sweepin' lines'uv the fenderz'r jus'z enjoyably, the cracked leather'a the seatz. With me it's the elder statesmen'a the road. But, truth-be-told . . if I drive by there tomorrow'n they have a Thing on the floor, I'll probably go sit inn'att too. 'Not much chance I'll be runnin' the ol' calloused paws over sweepin' linez'r leather . . but, like you . . I'll go sit inn'itt. Java

I admire your will power, Go.
I've, too often, bought cars or bikes as a result of just talking myself into it at the dealer.

Only Porsche's I've ever sat in were the one's I've owned. A 1960 356B and a 1966 911. That was a LONG time ago. Don't ever recall reading in 'em though........LOL

As I was typing that last night, I actually thought to myself that Java was going to comment on it's length. You didn't disappoint Java.

Ohhhhhhh, VERY nice!!! We saw a Speedster on the highway today that was very nice as well, but you always have to ask if it is real or not. I have seen some really nice kits.

5 years later my wonderful wife found an 03 in perfect condition with 20K at a new local dealer and I talked me into finally driving one - needless to say we went home with it that night... |

Go----Every time I went to a Honda dealership and there was a S I would sit in and ask my husband didn't he think this was the perfect car for me! (I would even ask the other shoppers in the dealership). When my son was buying a Honda, my husband suggested that I take one of the two S2K's they had for a test drive. I took the one that was the same color as Pab's, it was lovely, the day was a perfect 10, and then can you believe my husband didn't buy it for me. (a case of mental cruelty I think).
anyway gomar I love different and if you were happy and didn't do anyone harm then good for you. |

It was a fun ride. I think I bought it in 1971. You have to appreciate the fact that the floor was rotted out especially by the front wheel wells and the paint was really faded red. If I took it out in the rain, the water would come spraying into the cockpit. I took my wife out for our first ride together in that car when we first met. There was snow and slush on the road and she got soaked. When she did not complain, I KNEW was was the one. Fun n stuff! I only had it for about a year. My best friend was driving it and tried a down shift from 4th. He missed 3rd and hit 1st instead. The old car did not like that.........LOL since I know you were going to ask, yeah, 35 or so years later, he's still my friend.
