You are correct. Headers and exhaust are very, very good in stock form. They don't produce much horsepower when changed to after market. The main reason we change the stock exhaust is because the weighs quite a bit, and going after market can save you 40 - 50 pounds in some cases.

Back to the header question, the answer is really no. They don't produce much in the way of numbers. People report a change with there "butt dyno", but most of the time that is about it. If you would like after market, go either Berk, or spend some cash and go Mugen (isn't worth it in my opinion). Or be like me and stick with stock. Going with a cat back and a test pipe is a better route IMO..

Headers for our car are not cost efficient. You could spend 600 dollars and gain up to 10whp mid range, and lose 1-2 peak whp.

I have an Invidia Dual Catback System.

I love this exhaust. It is too loud for some, but doesn't sound ricer. You can also go for a HKS High Power. It is dual exhaust as well. Those are the two best IMO. And don't go single if you are trying to stay away from ricer, unless you have a turbo that is....

Mugen headers produce 10 more hp in the mid range and the gain is very noticeable. You can pole all of us that have them. Cost effectiveness is a non issue.

Because nobody is willing to spend the money for headers that actually do anything.

I loved my old Invidia, almost nothing compares to it for sound quality, but it is very loud.

I opted to make my full 3" exhaust with a Megan can and just 2 bends for my turbo setup.

with the exception of a minor "Polling" issue, Desmo4 is correct. The Mugen header gives a definite HP boost in the mid-range. It's not only a butt-dyno feeling its a actual rear wheel HP gain.

Seems like I've asked this before but my memory stinks so I'll ask it again........

Does anyone have dyno sheets that show a horsepower gain with ONLY an exhaust change? I suspect that often a change in the exhaust noise level leads some folks to "feel" like the car has more power. I call it "Placebo GT speed parts".

Well that is personal taste. Some say it is too loud, but I love it and think it is perfect. If you want to control the sound of it (it can drone a little) just make sure that you buy a test pipe with it. I would go for it. It looks great and all my friends love hearing me drive my "S".

Don't forget an intake too. That combined with the exhaust is orgasmic!

If you want the Mugen results without the Mugen price, buy a Rick's header.
