It down to physics. An electric motor has it's peak torque at zero rpms. SO it is capable of enormous acceleration. Gasoline engines torque as we know occurs at some rpm based on temperature displacement, size of pistons etc. Speed is related to size of engine or motor. The bigger the faster to a certain extent.
