Santa Barbara is Burning
On my way home the other night, I saw a small smoke cloud in the hills above my house. I thought "no big deal, they'll have that out in no time". By that evening, the fire grew a bit. By the next day, it had grown A LOT. I went out and got a few night pix of the fire. Yesterday, it was spooky. The entire mountain was on fire. The sky is blotted out by the smoke. Went up "The Pass" and got some great pix. Came down and had to get some gas and every station was packed. I waited in line at one, then the power went out. Went to the next one and the same thing happened. Turning into another and the power goes out. I finally found one (the 10th I checked) with power. got home, packed up the pictures, guitars and other stuff I can't replace. Ready to go if we have to evacuate. The canyon across the street from me was evacuated and the houses on the other side of the street are on evacuation warning. It's snowing ash everywhere. Of course, I'm still driving with the top down. No structures have been lost but it's pretty knarly out there and it's at 5400 acres and only 16% contained. Send good energy this way.
I'll try to post some pix on Monday when I get to work, but I may need some help from someone cuz they come out too big and I don't know how to reduce them. Jimbo

I hope everything works out for not only you, but everyone down there. Be ready to go at any moment.

I finally got my pix posted on Picasa but now I don't know how to post them on the web so you can see them. I made a web folder, but I don't know what or where the link is that I can post so you can check them out.
Any help here from anyone that uses Google's Picasa? Let me know, Jimbo

90% contained. Some hot spots in isolated areas but no danger to any populated areas. The fire fighters did a great job. No homes lost.

Is that just for your area or in reference to the whole thing? In any case, best of luck to you and everyone else there. If you do need to evac, just remember that the S can maneuver through everybody else running away like nobody's business AND it has room for one lucky passenger!

Our area is clear. Don't know about Big Sur, Sacto area or northern Cali though.

Good to hear Doc, thanks for the play-by-play. Didn't we just go through this last year? CA is huge, though, every section gets it over the years. I'm waiting for this horrible "lightning but no rain" season to cause fires all over NV, but so far you've got them all. Hope you're done for the season!
