Stewies first road trip
Took a trip from home (central NY) to Bar Harbor and then down to Rockport Ma. Was a good time, top down at all times. The trunk had plenty of room for stuff for a five night trip for two. I know youre all gonna find this hard to believe, but we averaged 34mpg as long as we were crusing at 60-70mph. Took all seconary roads, no highways. Great ride, cant wait till we have enough free time to go out again. Only bad part is itll probably take me an hour or two to de-bug her nose (the car not the wife)

Hey Red, sounds like you had a great time. 34mpg? Holy cow that's remarkable.
Did you take any pics on the trip? Why don't you post em?

I'm guessing it was a fun trip, especially since you realized that the S2K can be one of the best fuel saving sports cars in the world. I am going to drive down to L.A. tomorrow with my younger brother for the day. I'll post pictures if I can find a way to use my younger sister's camera without her noticing I took it...

Not surprised with your mileage. The car is light weight and aerodynamic. Most of us just have leaden feet. The cruise control is there for a reason but who uses it?

Its a little awkward to see but press the button while in motion so the light turns on.

I don't think the car has to be moving to turn the dash switch on. The car must be running. Then get up to speed and press the set, accel button on the steering wheel. Take your foot off the gas and and it will hold the speed. Turn it off by touching the brake. I think I have the names right, since I rarely use it and am doing this from a rather fuzzy memory.

Red didn't say what speed he used, but a few miles per hour will make a difference. I've gotten 26 with a lot of slow curves and 70+ on freeways.

Interesting thing just happened. I wrote "(m.p.h.)" and it posted as miles per hour. Had to use periods to get it to post the letters.

miles per hour miles per hour mpg You guys are right! Must be some kind of spellchecker/acronym conversion thing. Probably goes haywire with Java's posts.

I've used the cruise control a few times (mostly as an experiment), and was very surprised at what a good control it is, considering what type of car this is. No hunting, nice smooth adjustment of speed to terrain, good controls even if the On/Off switch is blocked by the wheel.
Of course, I could have expected this would be a good control - Honda Engineering at work! |

I've used the cruise on mine and it works pretty well. I've got a 2000 mile road trip coming up later this week (DFW to Milwaukee and back) so I suspect it will get more use. Best mileage I've seen has been 31mpg. Worst is 23 and I wonder how hard do you have to flog it to get down to the EPA 18mpg city thing? I put a little over 200 yesterday running out to one of my favorite roads to have a little fun and used less than 1/2 a tank. (150 miles of interstate and 56 miles of twisties (2X up and down a 14 mile stretch of road).)

You can cancel the cruise control by tapping the clutch or the brake. On the ap1 you can also push both the accel and decel buttons at the same time and the cruise control will cancel.

State Highway 4 between Palo Pinto and Santo. Take 20 west to 183 through Weatherford and Mineral Wells, to Palo Pinto. On the west side of Palo Pinto, turn south on SH 4 (might be marked as FM 4), it looks like a normal street not a through route so it's a little hard to find. The twisties start just after you get out of town, run for about 4 miles until you hit a 6 mile flat stretch, then another 4 miles or so of fun. Or you can take 20 west to 281, exit north toward Mineral Wells, then left on 129 to Santo, then right on 4 towards Palo Pinto-this is an uphill run. The other way from PP to Santo is downhill and my preferred direction because some of the corners are blind on the uphill and you have people dragging boats and RV's to/From Palo Pinto and PK Lakes. Be careful early morning and evenings because of people on their way back from the lakes. At mid-day it's almost deserted on weekends. Sundays there's some church traffic until around 1. Also, the Harley guys like to run this sometimes as part of a bigger loop so watch for them. |

I left VA for up-state NY on Friday morning, drove I-95 from VA to NJ, GSP and NJ Tpk to Lake George. (Seven hours worth with the stupid traffic around the Tappan Zee), did a 4.5 hour pre-drive on Saturday for S2KDays, left Lake George on Sunday morning and headed home. Cruise control at 80 miles per hour most of the way on the interstates. Touching the clutch or brake releases cruise control, the lower button sets the speed, the center button cancels cruise, the upper button is for increasing the set speed (as someone said, one tap on the accel increases the speed by 1 mile per hour...very handy... decel switch decreases the speed by 1 mile per hour per tap as well). I generally set a baseline speed (like on the interstate in this area, I set the cruise control for 70 miles per hour) and then I drive with the traffic flow...if the traffic is faster I accelerate, otherwise, I just let the CC get me to work and home.

I want your traffic, kgf! I turn mine on and off a dozen times each way as it gets sludgy and clears up... But I also never turn off the dash switch, too handy to click 'set' and relax when you can, and I hope it gives me a few more feet per gallon.
