So . . um-m-m-m . . d'you folkz like it hot?

I'm currently sittin' in'a back room't the computer, kind'a hidin' out.
In the background, every once in a while, can be heard Mama Java givin' some volume to the fact that she'z not to pleased with your truly (That wuz an exceptionally loud one. We jus' registered'z unhappy with the local neighborz.)at the moment.
"Stupid SOB" seemz ta be preddy popular't the moment.

'Seemz't this year I'd gotten inta my guineaness'n planted some stuff. Yeah. Stuff. I ain't big on this farmer thing, y'know?
But, despite my best (That outburst probably jus' godd'us on the 7 o'clock news)efforts, the stuff grew anyway.
Mama Java'z been thrilled. Fresh grown stuff'n we're eatin' rabbit-food in between normal, human-type burgerz, sausage, pizza'z'n all'a rest'uv'itt. ('Dogz ain't much help here'z when I try'n slip it to'em under the table, they gedd'up'n leave'n I godd'a pile'a rabbit-food on'a floor'n Mama Java on my case.

Anyway, so it seemz she jus' found out't some'a the pepper plantz I got were habanaroz. 'Feelz I should'a advised'er'a that.
'Feelz preddy strongly't I should'a advised'er'a that.
('Gotten kind'a quiet. I sense the plottin'uv revenge goin' on nearby.)

Anyway, so the topic havin' been unintentially raised, whut kind'a eatz do the ownerz'a Stewiez favor?
I'm yer past-tense typical meat'n potatoz kind'a fella, partial to hot-stuff alodd'a the time. (Up until a liddle while ago, I thought Mama Java wuz too.)
So whudd'a we stuffin' in our facez gang?

pretty much omnivorous. no liver, etc. i like hot peppers, they don't always like me.

mama should take a vegetable recognition course. when it comes to hot peppers, one should always be wary. habaneros are easy to recognize, visually and by taste. caution is always advised. unless you duped her into biting into one, she shouldn't be blaming you. small tastes of the unknown are recommended. habaneros are so hot that a very small taste should put you on full alert. they do make wonderful salsa, if you like it hot. beware though, because revenge of the habanero can be painful. hint: wash your hands, or handle the peppers with gloves. i am serious...

Being born and raised in a poor neighbourhood, things got kinda tuff. When I was born people said noted that my eyesight wasn't the best , I was a little deaf and was blessed with a honking big nose. So when you added it all up yea life was hard !
But for the last seventeen years I've been on a diet of rabbit twice a day, 10 & 4 o clock disaplined eating.............Could'nt afford no messing around....no way !
Now seventeen years later my nose is so cute, my eyes and hearing are just great....and boy do I love mating season !

We eat just about anything that the mother one sets down in front of us providing it don't swim and it's no longer moving.
My eldest has been known not to be so fussy on the later point

Pizza, pizza, pizza. No, not just any pizza. I have sampled pizza in at least 20 states. For example, the pizza in Reno is ketchup on nasty dough with Monterey Jack for cheese. NO that is not PIZZA! Pizza Hut is NOT pizza!

New York has PIZZA! and it is the food of the GODS! There is no substitute.

AMEN, BRO!!!!!

When I visit the east coast (where I'm from, by the way) I tell all my relatives I'm visiting to see them. Really, it's for the pizza and cheesesteaks. (now I'm hungry for stuff I can't get in Hooterville)

For special occasions, bd ays, anniversary's etc., we spring for a New England clambake or sushi. Fresh crab ranks right up there. I did a piece on how to catch crab (the edible kind).

This reminded me of a time far in the past... like 1984. I was a typical American teen (at least in diet) being raised by hippie parents who wafted in and out health food kicks. At various times we were not allowed meat, sugar, chocolate, wheat... basically all of the good stuff was out at one time or another.

Mom was never a very inspired cook. She would experiment with recipes and the results were not always edible (but she would freeze the remains for later after we could not get it down the first time.) On this particular occasion, she tried her hand at making falafel. After we (the children) could not gag it down, it went to the dog. The dog was very happy with this new dish and promptly ate the whole mess.

However, about 10 minutes later the dog was "giving back" the falafel in the middle of the living room. From this point on Mom's falafel was known as "feel awful" since it made the dog feel awful.

The only thing to drink for the burning are milk or beer. Water doesn't do it. BTW chilies are very good for you.

being from Yonderland, I know alot of amateur farmers. Growing up, I consumed alot of food that we either grew, caught, or shot, ourselves.

Me Da 'n me Brudder are both growing some serious gardens this year.

Swiss chard,tomatoes,cucumbers,radishes,cauliflower,broc coli,brussel sprouts,every kind of lettuce,corn,pumpkins,several types of squash,zucchini,pumpkins,peppers(bell 'n bananna...but no hotties),and potatoes, eggplant, cabbage and.......I'm sure I'm missing a few.
My brother's garden plot is no less than 1/3 acre.

I've been well supplied with fresh vegetables these last two months, and the gardens will continue to produce until mid fall.....It takes alot of work, and you really have to enjoy it. I help out just enough to guilt them both into feeding me.....There's plenty to go around this year. The growing season has been very good.

Canning season is about to begin.

Soon it'll be time to hunt small game. Squirrells, rabbit, grouse and then on towards winter to get some deer or the occasional bear.
The fish caught through the ice will come after, and they're one of my favorites. Walleye in Feburary, tasty.

True story, my dad hands this to me last week, (see photo) and says,
"I grew this for you twinkle toes...." We had a laugh, and a can of Pabst , and I took the pic.......Rednecks, sheesh. Anybody know what he was yammerin' on about?

regards to the growers out there!! 'n the rest of you too.

Under similar circumstances about 15 years ago, my dad threw a light switch in my lap, broke wind audibly, and left to "get a pack of cigarettes". Got to keep this post short... he should be back any minute now.

Simple... In-N-Out Burger!!!!

Oh, you mean in Idaho. Well we don't have INO here so I have to go with sandwiches and such. Usual meals on the weekdays are:

Breakfast- toast, Eggo waffles, Propel, and Frosted Mini Wheats while I drive to work

snack- water, granola bar and cashews

lunch- sandwich of some sort, chips, Propel and some sort of chocolate

dinner- If I don't go for a run after the gym, I have what ever left overs there are.
If I do go for a run after the gym, Otter Pops.

Weekends will usually be Quizno's for lunch and something made at home for dinner

Throw in an occasional sushi bar trip or sea food somewhere and all is good.

You will notice there are no ham/cheeseburgers mentioned. If it's not INO, I don't eat it. I have lived in ID for three years and still haven't eaten a cheeseburger in this state.

+1 That's one of the things I miss about New Mexico is mexican food made with green chilis (miss green chili cheeseburgers too). Tex-Mex (made w/ jalapenos) is just nasty!

watch out now...there is a big diff in New Mexican cuisine and Mexican cuisine...that could get you killed. and watch the spelling ...here its chile, not chilli..don't ask why..i don't know. I think its to differentiate b/w Red and Green.

and yep...the jalapenos just don't work for me...

Few yrs. ago we found a great restaurant near old town, Albuquerque. It was behind the old church and served regional food. Wonder if it is still there.
