RX-8s

Well, it's sure's hell ugly, you gotta give it that. Especially after comin' behind that gorgeous RX-7. It's gonna hafta be pretty damned quick n' nimble to make up for all that ugly.

the s2k is smaller and less practical than the 8. I feel that the s2k seems more nimble. It's to compare the 2 though. the rx offers that rear seat. Resale sucks on rx8's, so you're going to take a bath trading it in.

A friend last spring bought a leftover '04 rx8 for $9k off sticker, so trade in value is going to be lower...

Aaay, Carbon . . are you sure about that new RX7 poop??? Mazda may have embarassed themselves with the RX8, but to admit it in public n' pull the 7 back into the picture? It'd take more 'nads for that to happen than anyone in the high-altitude offices of Mazda has. If it happens it'll sure be a first, n' yes . . if it actually happens I will remember that you were right.
Hell, to get the sweet lines of the 7 back on the road again? I'd eat alotta crow to see that happen.
Be well.

truth be told from reliable sources

I have this from a very reliable source. More specifically the Vice president of Open Road corporation. of which Mr. Ryan is on the board of trustees for Honda and Mazda. From what they explained to me the car is in development they are stopping production on the rx8 and are going to relese the rx7 in a year or so but timing will vary based on other factors. pimarily the fact that the company just came out with another sports car the Mazda 6 speed turbo and miata. and the company feels they can't just keep releasing sports cars. but if you have another source that happens to be more reliable... feel free to share why you think i'm wrong?

Heaven forbid! Nah. I jus' think it unlikely that they're gonna run the numberin' sequence in reverse. You know . . RX7, RX8 . . er . . um . . RX7.
While I think it unlikely, I hope you're right n' I'm wrong. The 7 was one of the most pleasin' pieces of eye-candy to come down the pike in quite some time.
Be well.

I have never owned an RX8 but my dad worked at a dealer. The only problem really is the motor, its an rotary so it doesnt have much low end power compared to my 02S2K see pics in gallery at lsaudioco.com. I'm robert by the way. The RX8 is also a four door with not much room i dont get that, i guess low insurance (idea) also it is alot longer car (good for audio purpose) but all togther i really like my S2K ps the new S2K has totally changed a friend drove mine then an 06 he loved my handling compared to the new but its ur choice e-mail me on my website. whatever choice have fun!

I love the looks of the RX-8. But as of now there is no convertible version of the RX-8, so there's no comparison to the S2000 at all.

Glad this came up.

The other day, my buddy tried racing me in my '02 S2K and I really handed his butt to him. HUGE difference. The S2K is a pure race car. The RX8 is more "practical" which usually means not as fast. I don't mind the looks of it though, myself.

DEFINITELY GET THE S2K (Big suprise to hear on this site, right??)

I would love a rx7 if I lived in the sunny states.... I would like to say there is a lot more stuff to work on for driving it in the winter A friend tells me they are bastardo to get started in the cold cold winter of WI but I have yet to see one driven in the winter but yeah depends on where you live I actually raced one and beat it but I dont think this dude knew how to drive I met him on the highway and it was 2am nobody around the speed limit was 65 and he was like nice car yelling at me and then said wanna race I nodded then he slowed down and we went from a dig and I smoked him by 3 lengths then I hit the brakes at 150 because we cought up to some traffik and he said were you on it all the way and he said I barried it I thought I would have beat you and that was that I exited shortly after ... But if you don't care about racing and you like a more luxury car then I wouldn't get the s2k

i am not a fan of the rx-8. It is a rotary motor so right of the bat reliability is an issue. RX-7 is a sexy quick car but the only reason i didnt want one was in fear of it being like my other car off the road more then on. Plus im very very hard on cars. The RX-8 didnt feel nearly as stable as the s2000 although i admit i didnt do alot of highspeed cornering or anything it just felt sloppy right from the start. It has even less tq then our cars ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Styling is questionable but thats a taste thing. Were they serious when they made the seats? Kinda looks like the seats are from a science fiction movie. Personally the rx-8 was never in my list of cars. I liked the 05 mustang gt, ford lightning, 350z, infinit g35 coupe, and a few older cars supra, 300z, 68 fastback mustang kinda a wide range no 8 though

I like the looks fo the RX8 as well. I think it performs well. Having said all of that, I would trade my S for one.

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Marlins, you WOULD trade it for one?

I drove the 8 before the whole hp recall BS. I actually liked the car a lot and if I really needed 2 more seats I would have been more serious about it. To say the rotary has no low end torque compared to the S2000... I wonder if any V8 owners are reading this

I think it comes down to this: Do you want a 2 seat convertible or a 4 seat coupe. Both are very fun cars to drive, one is a little more track oriented, the other more comfortable and convenient.

Don't care. It could run like a C06 (I think that's right) Corvette but it's still lookin' like the South end of a North bound tail-less dog.
It'd hafta be unbelievable damned quick n' nimble to make up for all that ugly.
N' it ain't.
Be well.

Erm I love all the rotarys are unreliable thing. Actually a well maintnenced rotary will show less wear than a similar piston motor. Sure they're more of a hassel to own, but just like a tan blond, they'll pay you back in the end.

The rotary got a bad rap mostly because of the intensely complex TURBO on the FD 7.

And don't go and say super slow, it was just a lack of support from the aftermarket community. Expect that to change now that we have the Cobb accessport. 220 whp w/ ignition upgrade, cobb ap, and a midpipe. My car made 190 on bad coils. When I go back to the dyno this friday ill know what the ignition upgrade + tune will do.Also most F/I systems have become available in the last year with many more to come.

That's S2k territory.

As far as enthusiast car, the rotary embodies that. Keep it oiled and you'll have more fun between 5000rpm and 10000rpm you can have on a stock motor.

Things to know about the rx8, fragile tranny, eats oil, guzzles gas, most recommend premixing. But no one can deny a damn good car to drive.

Yeah I would have to pass on an RX8. Well really on any newer mazda. I just hear to many bad things about newer mazda's. Example: friend had a new mazda 3 for about 6 months and the engine blew up. They would'nt even cover it under warrenty. He had regular maintence done when he was supposed to and everything. That one incident is enough to keep me away from mazda's for good.
