Maxima tried to take my freeway light!!!
Ok, so this morning I am at the meter to get onto the freeway and I have a light and the new Maxima next to me has a light. My light turns green to go and he guns it. It is a long on ramp with a turn to get on the freeway. I let my emotions get the best of me and ran with it. We stayed even through the middle of 2nd and then I started to pull away. I got on the freeway at the top of third and then let off to go with the flow of traffic. This guy then goes and gets up my ass and starts to high beam me. He was the one who messed up and he is high beaming me! Anyway I brake checked him hard and then cut over 2 lanes and took off. He got stuck behind a wall of Pruis and couldn't get out to chase. Not a great story but I think the new maxima is a 6 sec. 0 to 60 car, so I felt pretty good about edging him out and taking my right of way back...

Interesting. I had a Maxima incident also, two lanes into an on ramp from a light. I was on the ramp first and it narrowed from two lanes to one with a right hand curve. I was minding my own business when he flew by on the left with not much space left before it became one lane. I reacted the same way you did and started to challenge, but my wife started screaming at me to stop. So I let him go.

Man California is totally different from Texas. Texans don't really play that break checking/road rage mess. People have been literally getting shot at over that left and right here (Houston). I don't mess around anymore with idiots on the freeway. I try keep my middle finger in the hoster now.

One of the reasons that I don't miss California. I lived there 8 years and that was enough.

yeah, i've had someone do that before. dude was in a lane that had maybe 1/4 mi then it was mandatory freeway entrance ramp, i took off normal speed and was going to put some distance on him then get in the lane to get on the ramp.
asshole decides he doesnt want me to get in his lane, even though there is ample room and i'm not going to cut him off or anything, so he guns it. dude was in a 3 series something or other, so of course i downshift back to first and fly past him, barking 2nd and hopefully deafening him a little, then get in his lane, with ample room. at this point i'm on the entrance ramp going 75mph and let off to go with the flow i'm about to merge into, douchebag flies up and tailgates me then as soon as its possible crosses a double white and changes 4 lanes then speeds off, almost causing a few accidents lol.

Yes the maxima is FWD. What pissed me off the most was that he felt the need to ride my ass after I had already gotten out ahead of him and merged. He had to cut off 3 other cars to get behind me. At that point, I feel the brake check was justified. I had outs on either side of me and he had a good 7 or 8 car lengths between him and the car behind him. The other thing is that if I was in the E55 or the Chevelle or the Porsche he probably wouldn't have even tried it because 1) the E55 can smoke literally 95% of the cars out there in a drag, 2) the Chevelle is a respected classic and it's pretty damn quick too, and 3) even though the porsche is slow, it is a classic and even this idiot would probably respect it but because I am in the S he feels the need to be a dick. Whatever...

Just another reason to be glad that I don't live there any longer.

To the O.P.: I feel your pain, bro. But it is better not to lose your cool. At the end of the day, you don't want bad things happen to you or your car (e.g., I've had people throw things while driving on the freeway and hit my car). People are cuckoo. You don't want to be cuckoo, you want to be smart.
Like you, I get angry sometimes. But I am really, really trying to cool it. |

Not so much in the car, but I ride a bike too...and sometimes I really wish I had a AA battery or a few ball bearings to throw at some people (mainly those who are riding my ass for no reason). That's really the only time I get mad. Other than that, I know people make mistakes with turning out in front of me, etc.....but that kinda stuff usually isn't intentional so why get worked up about it?
Like you said, it's best to not get mad - you avoid a lot of trouble that way. When some dickhead is tailing me, I usually just wave them to pass, and give them a thumbs-up as they do (you'd be surprised, but a thumbs-up will work much better than the middle finger when it comes to making them feel like a jackass). |

I ride, too. Easier than getting mad is just throttling away from the jerky people. One of biking's great advantages.

Yeah I know I can always just light the burners and disappear...but we shouldn't have to do that. For instance, a few weeks ago, I was on a residential road; 35 miles per hour speed limit. I'm doing at least 45, and some ass in an Infiniti SUV with rims was trailing me like a broke stripper for about a mile. I see him holding his hand out the window like "YO, WHY ARE YOU GOING SO SLOW? DAMN MAN C'MON". I pull to the side, give him an angry wave to go ahead, and he speeds ahead of. Less than 500 yards later, he's stopped ahead of me at a redlight. If I had a battery with me, he'd have gotten a broken rear window, and I would have gotten the FULL attention of a pissed off a-hole, with 5,000 lbs of overpriced Nissan at his disposal. Thank goodness I didn't have a battery. I just gave him a look, and I'm pretty sure he felt like an idiot. Good enough.
