NASCAR

Is it just cos im british or is nascar the most boring motor sport ever. Just go fast in a circle cant be thet exciting. watching it for the last half an hour and noting has happened. Proper driving is o a hard track where a good driver can keep hs speed up. Boring american muscle car race in my mind

Been to 1 Nascar race (Fontana). 3 of the most boring hours of my life, after covering road races and historics. At least they used to resemble real cars. Now they are all from the same cookie cutter.

NASCAR is boring and the fans of it (for the most part) annoy me...

Now I've actually heard that being at a NASCAR race can be quite an experience...you know, with the sound, food, beer, women, vendors, etc...(and mullets too). But you will never catch me watching a race on TV. I think I'd rather watch the continents drift. It's a waste of gas if you ask me.

However, NASCAR rivals the NFL in it's ability to produce commerce, and is therefore here to stay.

500 laps of a boring circular track. Some people have too much time on there hands. lol. Best thing about racing is the close compition and the crashes IMO. Not slagging all american racing off cos i havent seen most of it. just funny cars and nascar so cant really comment. whats the best motor sport in america in your opinion?

For me it's the historic road races. But then I'm historic.

you sound like you would love the old britsh clasic racing. Iv only just got into motorsport but seen a few vids of the old audi's etc that look mental in the old races. So many changes now because they were so quick the races were too dangerous. good times!!!!

Over on your side of the pond there's Goodwood. Worth a trip if you can get there. I've done several articles on Laguna Seca Historics.

I was never really to big on NASCAR. But my daughters bought me a ride along in a car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for my birthday. What a rush! He came out of the pits really strong, thru all four gears almost instantly and up to 160 half way round. (they are chipped to max out at 160 for longer engine life, or so they say) The banked corners are waaaay steeper than they appear on TV. Really sticky tires. Next time I am going to drive. Costs alot more, but I know a couple of guys that have done it and said it was great. I do like to go fast!
The sound of the other cars on the track made me think that a race would be quite an event. As Jim referenced above, it is about as red neck as you can get. I don't think I could get really into it, but one race would be fun I think.

I think it's all perspective. Yeah, I understand to watch a 3 or more hours of a race is tedious. I, myself, can usually stay awake for the first 10 laps and then wake up to watch the last 30 laps.

Let me ask you a question: Have you ever played golf? If so, how long did it take you to shoot a 90. Once you play and see how difficult it really is, you have a whole new appreciation for the pros. Watching golf is not so boring anymore after you try it.

Ever driven a racetrack? I am parched and dying for my session to end at about the 20 minute mark, let alone being able to comcentrate without something to drink or eat for 3 or more hours. Those guys are ironmen. Ironmen with MAD skills. They are driving 3 times the speed as the freeway and they are all within 12 inches of each other for long periods of time.

I prefer to watch F1. I believe the races are the right amount of time.

Good example, I love to play golf even I suck at it. One good shot will bring me back to the course. Watching Golf in TV better than you go to see in person from my experience. They show shot after shot from different holes and golfers. When you go watch in person, you either get there early to save good spot to watch everyone play at the same shot, or you follow the golfer u like to walk a whole course with him.

I like to watch Rally and F1 as well. Seeing those Rally car drifting off to hit a light pole is fun sometime.

Nascar on a roadcourse is pretty entertaining. They should run them more often.

How about that 2008 U.S. Open where Rocco Mediate and Tiger Woods played the Sudden Death round?! That was without doubt the most exciting golf game I've ever seen in my life....probably more exciting than a good Super Bowl or something! I remember stopping in a bar for a quick lunch. The U.S. Open was on the TV. 2 hours later, I was rescheduling the rest of the work week, and walking home.

Yep, the minute I hit 85 I'm gonna start playing the full 18 holes not just 9!

As for NASCAR I sort of like it. My first on track experience was short track dirt "stock" cars so I understand there's a lot more going on than just turning left. I think F1 has become much more boring than even Indy car.

The reason NASCAR is so popular is cuz its easy to follow if your drunk. its only worth watching if there is a big crash.

It don't get any more exciting than watching someone travel at high speeds through forestry not knowing the route solely relying on his pals instructions.
I remember watching one stage through Ireland when this Audi Quatro was just hammewring along a dirt road then hit a cow..........what a mess, steaks all round !

I don't know how the navigator does it. I'd be heaving my guts all over the car. Saw the Irish thing with inside the car cameras when the car hit a tree. Those guys can drive. 120 on a narrow dirt road in the rain!

my uncle used to come to my house every sunday to watch the nascar races..it never really appealed to me, even at age 9. i do give the drivers respect though, it probably isnt as easy as it looks but i would never WANT to drive 500 laps in the same direction with no mre than 2 sweepers. theres nothing more exciting to me than handling a car through multiple turns at high speeds

when i first announced i wanted an s2k back in the day, my uncles and dad gave me a lot of smack (were white) about japanese cars and all but over the past couple years they all changed their minds and have a lot of respect for them and their capabilities..thats after i brought my uncle out driving a few times..one even wants to get into hitting the tracks..he's looking at a 240 right now^^

When Nascar was first created, a lot of the drivers were the guys that ran illegal moonshine throughout the backroads of the south. I often thought it would be more entertaining just to put cameras on the dirt roads of Alabama instead of watching cars going around in a circle.
