rpm and exhaust

Hi,

Can anyone tel me when you are racing, at what rpm do you launch you car without the tyres spinning because i have no traction control and i got 16inch tyres.

Also if you de-cat the exhaust, will it mak a difference?

Practice. There is no set anything for launching a car. Practice makes perfect.

if you want to drive it on the road it will. You might be able to get away with no cat but it won't give you anything. The exhaust system on the S2000 is designed for a certain amount of back pressure and the presence of a catalytic converter, removing the cat changes the dynamic. Naturally, YMMV but I wouldn't recommend removing it.

Your traction control is your limited slip diff. However, from what I've read from others you want the tires to spin to ease the strain on the diff. I don't know how true that is but I do know that if I let the clutch out too fast even at 2500 rpms with 9.5" rear tire tread...they will spin a little.

I believe he's talking about ETC (electronic traction control) the computerized system that shifts power to the wheel that's not spinning. It's standard on 2007 (and probably 2006) S2000's. A LSD is just that, limited slip, it's not traction control...as a matter of fact, it's going to try to put power to both driven wheels no matter what.

On asphalt I launch mine at 7000. That gives me the proper amount of tire spin to keep from shocking the drivetrain and yet keeps me moving. That is the only way I've been able to replicate the 5.5 0-60 figures of the magazines.

the guys at the track are telling me that if you launch in VTEC you'll shatter the diff housing....

7 grand and you will never stop spinning unless you have some drag radials that are amazing. Ive dropped the clutch in vtec many a times and it hasnt shown signs of shattering yet lol. One of these times it may break but you do that to any car and it could break.

We should look into this, but launching at 7000 doesn't always mean it's using the high cam off the dig. It's something I always thought, but since I had my VAFC NEO installed I've notice if I spike my first gear under certain conditions, it won't switch into VTEC. The NEO has a VTEC display feature to show where it switches over in either cam direction. This will only happen in first gear.

Now this is different from VTEC having to only kick in once your engine is warm. <----- I learned that the hard way, kicked my a** when it shuts off.

Smart computer?

races and rpm

Guys, i am launching at 4000rpm and its spins, if i go to 7000 then it will probably snake with the power at the back wheels. I had a few good races, an audi TT from standstill gave me 2 cars but on the open road i opend him many cars. Also raced a subaru wrx, he was three cars ahead of me. The Golg 5 GTI, i was two cars ahead of him.

Essence of dragging is to balance your clutch and pressure on the gas until it hooks up. Power, drivetrain, and traction is all relative when you're practicing. Keep at it and you'll eventually learn where your car launches best, then you'll be ready for reaction time. =)

I am however not responsible for any dmg's doing so. =)
