Launching.....

Gents so far I have enjoyed the pleasure of almost 3000 miles in my S2k in about 2weeks. Now I dont want to race everywhere I go but.
I was driving to Dallas, Tx (DFW) to pick a friend up to take him back to Tulsa, Ok flight issues of some sort. Anyway I got into town on 121 headed south and some guy in a GMC truck was talking a little to much. So I primed the motor at 3000 not wanting to burn the tires just enough to get it to grip and go. Well I let the clutch out and things didnt match up. It should have spun the tires but they had to much grip so it dogged a little (nothing noticeable from outside the car). And as usual took off like a bat outta hell smoking that stupid V-8 truck.

My Question is how can I lauch Stella (thats what I named it) [Stewie for everyone else] without riping out the diff or any other parts in her?

Kind'a like your more favored personal parts were located somewhere along the drivetrain.

I don't remember what year your car is, but if it's a AP-2, it has a clutch release valve that will prevent you from dumping the clutch and breaking expensive parts (most of the time). The car isn't a dragster but does all right...treat it like it's expensive....

I'd be leary of doing too many ultra-hard launches with either version.
s2ks are built for balance at high speeds, and a prerequisite for this is that everything has the fat trimmed off it. Stewie's just not beefed up enough in the ass-end to be dragging with it.

Seems as if I will use the same method as I have used on all my cars. Be careful and no dumping the clutch at high rpms. Seems to work havent messed up any cars yet.

Best quarter mile times are achieved by dumping the clutch at high rpms (eg 7000rpms).
This should allow the tyres to spin a little before grabbing and providing a quick take-off.
You want the wheels to spin a bit as this minimises the drive train shock, however I cannot recommend many uses of this method as our drive train is prone to failure.

Basically you cant get top launches without ricking something breaking. Perhaps upgrading to a strengthened diff may help if you really want to continue driving that way.

Naw I dont beat on this car that hard man. Im not looking for the best drag launch I know how to do that. Im looking for an optimal launch that will minimiese damage. What I normally do is just rev the motor up let it come back down rev it again..... and time the uprev with the go light then let the clutch out on the way up to 4-6 rpms and watcher fly. I wont dump at high rpms Im just not that hard core. I typicaly dont race and I wont dump the clutch like that but maybe once a month. maybe.
