S2000 vs ........

Just purchased my 2005 S2000. I'm 44 years old with a wife and two teenage boys, one with a Learners Permit. I drove a BMW 3 series, four door prior to the S. I have been driving my S for 2 weeks. One Porsche Boxter pulled alongside of me, in my neighborhood, on a busy avenue and began revving his engine and looking at me (and my 14 year old son). My boy says, "Dad, I think he wants to race you?" At that moment I realized, I had matured. I said, "he must be crazy", to which my son replied, "you shouldn't race on the street", to which I replied, "no, he could never beat this car!!!", we both laughed as we turned for home. Since that incident, a Honda Del Sol sat next to me at a redlight revving his engine and giving me the look, then, get this, a big pickup truck with straight pipes wanted a shot at me. What's the deal, I must look damn good, because everyone wants a piece of my and my S. Don't know how long I continue this new found maturity.

Found the same thing John, when I had my new S in Oct 07 .........people cut me off, threw out garbage at me, wanted to race ? I had to check the rear of my car to see if someone had stuck an obscene bumper sticker or something ?
Like you I was 44 a couple of years ago and have two teenage boys.
I think it comes with the terrirory, boy racer attitudes, its just to easy to loose your licence. Enjoy the car and good luck.

I am glad that I am not the only who is not interested in racing. I work with one person who has a Nissan 350Z,(hope I got the number right) and a person who has a Mustang, and I have friend with a Del Sol, and they all want to race. I am just really into enjoying my car at or just a bit above the speed limit, I have never had a ticket and I don't want to start now, or worse get in an accident and ruin my car, me or someone else.--------------------J

I feel a breeze pickin' up behind me........'n I could be tempted, for just a moment, to do something really stupid.

Street racing=Bad.

Congrats on the purchase of your '05. Tis a good year!

Yea, this racing stuff is tempting but has to remain in the "juvenile" department. I mean, can you imagine getting pulled over by the boys in blue cause you were racing a teenage boy racer and having them look at you and sayin' "really mister, at your age!" I think it would be embarrassing not to mention expensive !!!

Enjoy your ride John !

i've had mine for a week and I've owned a couple dodge chargers up to the 45 miles per hour limit and then just end it there.

I consistantly have vets either revving up or just burning rubber next to me and taking off. 3 in the last 7 days!!!

I think I should just race on the autoX track... the whole reason I bought the car!

Man 'o man! I'm glad you guys chimed in on this thread!

I thought it was only me.

Just turned 50, and I can't go out for a cruise without some Mustang, some biga$$ed truck or some misc. tuner car pulling up and revving its motor or lightin' up the tires.

Thought that my loud exhaust was just an invitation, but maybe its more common for all s2000 folks than I thought. Guess it goes with the territory..

I know for a FACT that the last year of production of the S2000 is 2003!!!!!
After that, it will be the S2200 under an assumed name.

Yea, i've had a few the funniest was a DuraMax Turbo diesel 4 door(huge truck with mudden tires and a winch). He was on my left, jumped on the gas a few times. Then kinda power breaked but didnt spin out. I guess to spin up the turbo? Anywho, i had the top down and was on a road trip in AL. I wasnt even thinkin about racin this guy. So the light turned green and he had a perfect reaction time. I really was impressed for a moment... Then comes the huge cloud of black smoke ingulfing me my car and everything in it. As soon as the smoke cleared and i could go this guy was no where insite! Crazy. The whole thing was so ridiculous I didnt know if i should be mad for gettin smoked out or be impressed at how fast that big redneck drag truck was with muddin tires.

You are so right....wise joda...but every now and again our loved ones do something we do not expect.... like my wife telling me this weekend after a corvette almost pushed us through a shopping/walk-thru shopping zone, "exchanging pleasantries" ....smoke him.... nice....

But you are so right (Joda ) let's keep our calm and just drive.

John - What you don't know is that your son taped a "race me" sign on the back of the car before he got in.

RACE ME, PLEASE!!

I'm going to check my car right now, he better hope you're not right

I'm kinda liking the race to the speed limit thing. But officer, I was doing the speed limit, just got there in 2.6 seconds.

I am waiting for summer to come I would expect more people trying to race when we have our tops down. However I did have a race with a 4.6 GT Mustang that this guy had raced all the time. It was damp outside but from a roll at around 6k I ran it to 55mph and won. Where he tore off going to 70-90mph.

Heck most the time you dont have to floor it to beat most the people that want to race you.... least thats what typically happens to me. I live in Tulsa, Ok

Just one to laugh at.... same night it was damp again so traction was pretty bad was a drivers game. A RX-8 pulled up next to me to race. My first thought was I wasnt going to race him. Then when the light turned green he just sat there and spun the tires. So I worked the clutch right and ran out 1st gear ahead of him. Was funny.

I just usually wave and continue on down the avenue. There has been more than one time where it was required to reinforce the pecking order. Most of the muscle cars and super cars around this area are gun shy of any S2000.
Check out the link in my sig.
