This dude drivin' the S2000 in this video is my idol. Can you imagine this lap with no traffic? He's an ironman.....One of those insane people just itchin' to meet his maker, no matter who that maker may be.
A Japanese Jimmy Clark maybe.
No doubt he'd be bouncin' it off the limiter in 6th 2/3 of the way down the home stretch at the Ring.

'Dunno guys. This guy takes the inner wheels over the stripes, n' it ain't by accident. He makes jus' clippin' apex takin' the long way aroun'. 'Totally in his element with not a hair oud'a place n' if ya put a heart monitor on 'im it'd likely be no different'n us if we were highway drivin'.
He's spent considerable time behind the wheel n' with that comes second-nature. He's no more itchin' ta meet 'izz maker than any of us. His normal abilities're jus' so much more advanced than ours when it comes to a fine machine n' a sweeter'n candy race course.
The preceedin' was, of course, the world accordin' to Java.
I godda go watch it again.
Say, Jagg . . where'z your Hank video? This thread should be for vids'a good Stewie drives.

That might be the best S2000 video of all time. I love the last 5 seconds when he gets air over the berm. And to think he was driving like that with no helmet! Crazy old man. I wonder if his family has a kamikaze pilot in it.

That down shift at the 43 second mark was VERY close to an over rev

That is FAR faster than I will ever drive. He was doing over 139 miles per hour at one point. I am hoping he was on race tires at those speeds.

So that's what the rev limiter sounds like, I've kinda avoided it. I'll have to try keeping it above 7K through all gears some time, definite different feel there, but looks way fun.

If you notice, he wasn't abusing the brakes. Just tapping them to change the dynamic of the car and set up his line. The car has such wide range in gear, you just have to be in the right gear for the corner.

I remember Phil Hill winning a race at Torry Pines in and XK120...with no brakes and no clutch. Now that's driven!

Amazing video. I do believe those speeds are kilometers per hour, not miles per hour. Does anyone know the actual specs of the prototype he was driving?

that is correct: it is kilometers per hour. just multiply by .62 for miles per hour. no idea of the specs. you can change your car to kilometers per hour but you cannot change from ℉ to ℃ if you have a north american vehicle.

This is the prototype of the S2000, maybe a year before it's launch. I believe there were only minor tweaks made between the car in this video and the actual production car. The guy driving is a famous professional test pilot, paid for his opinions within the context of chassis development.
So when people talk about modding their cars to make them better, this is why alot of us say the best money you can spend with a Stewie is training yourself to be a better driver.

'N this guy in the video.......he's a better driver. I enjoy watching his footwork just as much as the view out of the windshield in the video.

Finally, for Java Junky........a repost of my music video from another thread sometime back. By no means is it as exciting as the video from the Nurburgring Old Course, and the skill of the pilot is ten-fold less than the old man with the funky shoes and white socks......but there is some heel and toein' going on in it.....(and it is from an old race track, but the similarities end there).....sorry if you didn't like it the first time, but here it is again.

Still diggin it Jagg. Makes me wanna dig my car out of the mothballs, but it's 4 degrees here today and my ears would freeze in about 10 seconds. Can't hear Hank when your ears fall off. But spring is right around the corner!

It's not a matter of high speed rating I am concerned about, it's the speeds through the corners and the grip of the OEM's vs. R compounds.

Yes, those are kilometers per hour. If not, that is BY FAR the quickest and fastest S2000 on the planet.

I had seen the Old Course video many times before I posted it......and I've still watched it at least 5 times since yesterday.....This driver is a textbook pilot. Every once in a while , you see him "sawing" at the wheel to keep his racing line. Most of us would slow down the first time we had to do it.......he just keeps pushing faster. Geez, was he even wearing a seatbelt?

That guy did such a great job in shifting the weight of the car and squeezing everything out of the car. Kind of what you hear from the miata guys and how they need to keep their momentum up because of the lack of power.

Nice to see that he compares it to the NSX. I cant even imagine flying arround at those speeds
